Banks does a credible job of building very fast and attractive vehicles. I suspect you could too, but Gale Banks made a very fast truck....THEN he bragged about it. It was legit. Your car is potentially fast. I suspect it will be fast. It just has to get there. SO, when it does get fast, feel free to poke your chest out. You will have earned it. I personally feel as though you have asked for help here...and then later insulted us. You started out really nice and then got pretentious.

Maybe you didnt mean it, and some have said you didnt mean it, but the fact remains that you have some pretty unsubstantiated claims in effect. And Hot Rod, while its a good publication, is not the end all be all of drag racing. Like Jetta girl said, she races a lot and has slips to prove it. I watched here once. Her reaction time is stellar! I watched Rich at Fix um Haus go down the track wicked fast for what he was doing. I watched Andy2 go down the track his first time and while he was disappointed with his times, they were still both 14's. He was running snow tires, the wrong springs, the wrong timing and had a hard time hooking up. In addition, his reaction time was slow...but still he did VERY well. Better than many of the modified gas cars that day. He didnt come onto the board and claim the fastest Tdi....and we were at Waterfest! He could have claimed it as its the largest VW performance show of the year.

Again, I am not a racer, but I appreciate and admire those who are. I do build stuff though and to listen to your beginning and then your end, I now question your motives. Perhaps I am wrong. I have been wrong before. But I would again suggest your approach be a bit .....smoother in the future. And it would help if you went to a known venue...say, H2O and drag there. Must be a drag track available. Or perhaps come up to one of the dyno days. Dyno, and then got to a local track. suspect every state has one. Prove your case....THEN brag about it.

I don't know what all the fuss is about. It's really not hard to win a race when you're the only contestant. We all KNOW this is not the fastest TDI around. If it sparks interest and promotes modern diesel technology, then it's a good thing, IMO. I'm not saying I'm in 100% agreement w/everything that's happened here but... these things sort themselves out at their own rate. I would suggest that those interested get in the game and give this NB a good spanking...

I'd be game for doing drag week next year. I did 15.09 with just rc3+, cheap .216's, and a lift pump. I don't think low 14's should be hard to come by.

My plan is to run mine down the 1/4 this Sunday... on street tires.. The only things I'm taking out of the car are the speaker box (3/4" hardwood), rear seats, spare tire, and all the garbage that has collected in it..

This was me about an hour or so ago with all the crap in the car... The block, crank, rods, and pistons are ALL stock with 231,000 miles on them..

WOW TDIJetta99!!! smokin fast, I think COMP461 has some serious competition.

Heck this is me 2 summers ago running 100% WVO, BEFORE going back to diesel BEFORE the port and polished head, l.c. coated pistons, port and polished PD130 intake.
fast forward to 2:30, nowhere near as fast as yours but once I get my R520's and a new tune, I think the bug will have competition!!!

Mat is working on motor plates / engine mounts .

oh and the intake we just built is avalable if any one wants a killer deal, I just want an air to water intake

Why add all the weight of a water/air intercooler setup? extra radiator, pump, fan, heat exchanger, etc... just use a cheap front mount and call it a day.. I have around $200 in my whole FMIC setup and my intake temps never go over 140 degrees Fahrenheit.. ever..

My car smokes less and makes every bit as much power as your bug from what I've seen.. 9.5 seconds to 73mph (your 1/8 mile time)? that's not all that fast.. I can do it in 7 seconds with every pound of weight in my car including the spare, a hardwood speakerbox in the trunk, and a passenger in the front seat.. all on regular 205/55R16 all season's...

If you need lower EGTs, you can load ice in an air/water IC and get air into the engine below ambient temperature.

yeah... its a daily driver... there's no way I'm rearranging the whole intake system just for one day at the track... ain't gonna happen.. I can make it down the 1/4 (I think) without maxing out egt's.. If not, then I'll find out on Sunday.. I know out on the street I can make it up to just about 105mph before I hit 1600...

Air/water works well for strip, but will heatsoak fast on the street unless you've got a large capacity rad and resivoir.

Yea we've run them on drag cars here and there and they work great for that, but mine is a regular driver that MIGHT see the dragstrip twice a year..

Turns out that Island Dragway is closed this weekend for some odd reason, so I'll shoot for the following weekend instead..

And there you have it. There's the "it's so great because I said so, does anyone want to buy my untested parts" post. Beware.

You can negate the need for a huge-ish FMIC if the sole purpose of the car is to DRAG then why not just use nitrous to really lower EGTs??

FMICs can have poor fitament as is already known by many on here.

For street duty, just slap in a different tune cutting fuel out (you aren't racing driving to the next track). For drag, go all out and use spray. EGTs will not get high in the 1/4 with nitrous....at least not with the fueling we have available.

I'm willing to bet that the best air-to-air FMIC/SMIC will not match the cooling capability of spray alone for short distance...

That's WAY too much work to go to the track, but I see what you're saying if it's a dedicated track car. I can knock 800lbs out of the car if I REALLY have to. That will make more of a difference than anything... .

I have a 99.. I can't just "slap in" a different tune... it doesn't work like that.. I would like to go the nitrous route, but the way my car is set up right now, if I go even with a 50 shot of nitrous I'll have bent rods as soon as it kicks on.. I'm right at the bleeding edge of breaking internals, I've been for about 10,000 miles now (it's been tuned+injectors for 90k) and by some miracle it's still holding itself together with 231k on the lower end.. My FMIC fit very nicely, and it was a cheap universal kit of ebay, I really don't understand why so many here have issues going that route with theirs... I can only speak for myself with the intercooler and say it was a relatively easy job making it work..

Actually I think you can. At least in my -96 van I had two different programs. It had an additional chip on top of the original one inside the ECU and by turning a switch I could choose which chip I wanted to use.

there are also softwares with 2 or 3 selectable programs inside so you can switch between them by changing coding with vagcom
