Maybe it was imported as a farm truck first and then passed on...

seems highly unlikely any farmer would ever justify the importing fees just to have some ugly toyota when 3/4 and 1ton pickup trucks are plentiful here.....
Maybe he likes ugly toyotas, farmers are people too you know. 😂
I worked for a rancher who had half a dozen farm trucks and only one of them still had stock ride height and tires. And I'm sure he used the ranch to buy his ford Raptor too.

There is a guy around here who has farm plates on his Shelby F150.

One of the good "problems" farmers sometimes have is a profitable year, which means they have to buy a bunch of farm related stuff by the end of the year to subtract from their income and keep their taxes down. Thus a lot of successful farms have a whole bunch of classic tractors, ATVs, trucks, etc.. A foreign market HiLux would fit right in, if the IRS ever challenges the deduction the fact it isn't street licensable is a pretty good defense.

‘14 Jetta Sedan

I have one of these, but in Central America where they’re plentiful. I personally think it’s a good looking truck. Very basic even when fully loaded compared to anything marketed for the USA. Solid diesel engines and solid suspension. I’d love to bring mine back to the US, but the import process is a turn-off for anyone.

I’m actually in the process of bringing my ‘14 Jetta TDI to Central America. Even on this 10 year old vehicle, import duties are ridiculous. But I know the car is worth bringing since I’m about to permanently reside here.

Oh, and by the way, a Hilux, like some other Toyotas, keep high resale value. I’m about to trade in this 2019 model for a 2023. My 2019 has 75,xxx km. I’ll only pay a difference of about $4,000 to upgrade.

Whistlin Diesel did a series on YouTube of Hilux "durability tests" and they crack me up. Dropped a pallet of cinder blocks on it and ran it into a tree a couple times if I recall correctly, and it kept going.

Have you seen the dozer? If the hilux cracked you up killdozer 2.0 will bring you to laughing tears. That thing is going to be epic, and I can't believe he is the first person to build a second one. Surprised nobody has done it yet, toll now.
