203k with only one major unscheduled fix. (2nd gear synchro went at 150k) Original clutch still tight. Put in Sprint 520 nozzles and am thinking about RC2. Replaced starter, turbo, wheel bearings & all the usual wear stuff. I'm considering a head rebuild due to smoky starts (worn valve guides?)

I've enjoyed this thread but never contributed because it just didn't seem like my 2003 Golf qualified as a high-mileage car.

At one time, I thought, I would just aim for 400k miles and then start looking for a new Golf/Rabbit/Polo TDI. I may still get one, but now I fully expect to keep the '03 as a daily driver for however long it lasts. If I keep putting on 50k-60k miles a year, then in another 13 years I could be approaching 1 million miles. So that's a target I can aim for. Of course this target would be easier to achieve if I could just bump my miles-per-year up to the 70k-mile range.... Otherwise the Golf might last longer than me. (Maybe I should start taking better care of ME.)

Miles in the sig....
272 now on the Green one...only getting between 12-15k a year on it now.
209 on the Silver one...JUST sold to my Brother...not sure what kind of miles he will rack up.

The other one does not count...it really does not mean anything until you get to 200k :)...but this is now my daily driver so the miles will rack up nicely...about 30k a year.

mIleage all right...!!

Been getting asked a lot at the truck stops lately how is my MPG by the guys driving the diesel pickups, lol
...I resemble that remark..!!

I used to be fairly happy with 18-19mpg..that was with an MT truck and .80/Litre.! Well the big rig is paid for and I still have a smaller trailer to pull from time to time..but 50-70,000km annually on the rd in sales is simply not feasible anymore in a 2500HD...even with my mileage being paid so to speak...I mean why the hell give it to the oil companies.? May as well keep 60% of what I spend now in my pocket instead.!

As such I am really really heartened by what I read here this past 2 hours while reading this whole thread.!!

Seems as with all vehicles: Fluids / Filters / and in the case of these units: Timely timing belts/water pump changes along with an EGr block and a guy should be good to go...no.?

Anyway we've got <2 months to go before we move to Ontario (Barrie), and have seen prices for used JEtta's ('00 to 02 with 150km avg @ $12-13,500 CDN pesos), so that seems to be prety good as far as I can see.

Like the looks, like the fuel economy, like the idea of a 5 spd. Lookin forward to owning one...real soon.
Cheers,

stk

2000 Jetta just turned 302,000 miles. Going to need a starter soon, it's making funny noises. Other than that no major repairs.

If that "funny noise" is what I think it is, then your starter may last for a very long time. I've tried to find a diagram in the Bentley manual, and can't, but I've heard that a shaft off the starter runs through a tube, and the noise is caused by rubbing of the shaft against the side of the tube. If so, then the starter itself isn't the problem... and replacing it might not make the noise go away.

But I suspect someone else has already explained this better, in another thread, or maybe what I heard was wrong.

Well the noise just started recently, along with a slower cranking speed, so I assume the starter is on it's last leg. I guess I'd have to classify the noise as a "strange noise" since if it were "funny" I'd laugh when I hear it.

I'll have to pull it off sometime soon an take a look.

Today I rolled over 183,000. Bought it 2 1/2 years ago with 45K on it. (2000 Jetta) Practically all highway miles with an average of 50.5 mpg summers, 48.5 winters. Going to be getting my second TB done soon and loving the car every day, even with $4.80 per gal. Will be ahving to do suspension soon as I think it is original and squeeking a bit not that the warm weather is here in the North Carolina Mountains. Drive on my friends, drive on :D

I sold my 2000 Jetta with about 202,000 miles and it's the dreaded auto:confused: that everyone hates. I can hate them too now that I have a 5 speed wagon.:D

137,900 on '03 A4 Jetta. 53 MPG's at last check, even with a recent fuel fill @ $5.01/gallon, u gotta love it. Typical service and religious use of delvac 1 since inception. I fully expect 250k at this point.

tditom referred me to this thread so it's being resurrected after 1yr thanks to him.

These are/were my babies. If the mileage is listed they are still being driven every day. I believe my 2000 has the highest mileage posted here. All Jettas except my 06s are used as delivery vehicles. I break thim in them give them to the employees.

2000 Jetta TDI 483k - just had timing belt replaced - tdiclubbers helped me fix a loose vacuum hose, yay!! (will it pass state inspection??.....)
2000 Jetta TDI 166k - bought used
2001 Passat V6 (ex-wife took it/sold it...)
2003 Jetta Wagon TDI 277k - running like it's new
2004 Touareg V8 (traded in for 06 TDI Touareg)
2004 Touareg V10 TDI (totaled, long story)
2006 Jetta TDI 100k (like new in all respects)
2006 Touareg V10 TDI 19k - I try not to drive so much. Might end up like the 04 lol- Chris @ Langhorne hooked me up with this one
