my Jetta (manual) did some weird thing when we put it in cruise control, started shifting harder and then the next thing you know it wouldn't shift at all. parked it for a while, thought it was the shift fork stuck in gear. went to go trailer it somewhere and I decided to try and shift it into neutral with the engine off, wouldn't budge whatsoever, next day I try the same thing and it pops right into neutral with no effort. yes it did actually go into neutral not just the shifter. haven't started it yet to try and shift it but has anyone had a problem like this? was it the cruise control that started it?
