Hello TDI club. I just got my 2011 Jetta TDI 6 speed manuel last week. I love the car! I love the gas mileage, i love the 6 speed, and i LOVE the get up in 2nd and 3rd gear. Thinking about a short shifter for my first mod. Any suggestions for first mods? Any chip suggestions?
Thanks

I think the best mod is factory mod ;). The way it came from factory is the best mod you can get =).
Found out the hard way when my Golf 2001 2.0L died... T-T...

So I think I'll leave my New Jetta the way it is =)

Welcome! A Dieselgeek shortshifter is, without a doubt, my favorite mod (it's also the best shortshifter). It is a great place to start.

Modern VW's do not get a "chip". The ECU is flash memory based to increase performance you get a "tune". A search will find much info about the available tuners and tunes. The best known tuners are: Malone Tuning, RocketChip, Revo, Neuspeed, F1 Tuning, and more. However keep in mind that an ECU tune can (and probably will) be used by a dealer to void your warranty on your engine and/or clutch. Many members here have gotten tunes, but many also have decided to wait until their warranty is up before getting a tune. The choice is yours.

Have Fun!

Thanks for the advice. Short shift will be my first mod for sure. I'll wait for my warranty to run until I mess with my ecu. I've been thinking Neuspeed. I live in northern California. So I could drive to Neuspeed get it done and make a trip out of it. I'm not to big on sending my ecu in and waiting without a car. Any info on the apr intake? I know it doesn't add much but I like the looks. I'm wondering about the sound. I've searched but all I can find is people just say it sounds better. Is it alot louder? I had an intake in my accord but it was pretty loud espeacially in the higher rpms. It's actually got quite annoying. I've also heard it makes the turbo sound better. Not sure what that means. Like will the turbo whistle be louder?

Most aftermarket intakes have a pretty bad reputation around here for several reasons.

1) They add no power (they work best on non-turbocharged gas engines)
2) They are expensive
3) Beware of oiled filters - they can foul your MAF and cause expensive damage. If you must change your intake, go for a non oiled filter element.
4) Most aftermarket filters flow more air because they filter it less.
5) Many (not all) aftermarket filters suck in warm air from on top of the engine. Your car came from the factory with an excellent Cold Air Intake - it sucks in air from the grill, not under the hood.

Have Fun!
