a properly installed helicoil is as good or better than the original.
Are we talking drain plug? If it don't leak it don't leak

The drain bolt can be used multiple times if it's going into a threaded insert. The helicoil is only good for repairing threads once.

Why not install a Fumoto valve and be done with it?

I had one installed on a replacement cylinder head of a lawn mower due to spripped spark plug threads. I had replaced the original Al. head once already and when I went back for a 2nd replacement he told me that the helicoil would be more permanent.

The Fomoto plug works, but the threads for the 1.9 ALH pan don't match like they state. You will need to retap. Works great.

Utter bollocks.

Installed one on our 2000 NB TDI and 2006 Golf TDI. Went in like a charm, leak free for life on both. You have to use the recommended nipple to get it out past the edge of the pan but no issues with that either.

I bought the nipple, wouldn't thread correctly. Thread pitch was off. Got it in though and tight.

Then yours had a manufacturing defect or you bought the wrong one. The M14x1.5 on ADP106/F106/F106N is the same thread as the standard drain bolt for mk4 VWs.

I ordered the right one. They might have shipped the wrong one but I got the extension, oh well worked well.
