Good company, good food, good weather, good cars. What else could we ask for? Oh, yes, and an Up
solute distributor.
Heinz--I hope you don't get too much trouble from your neighbors for the ruckus we caused. Your hosting this was greatly appreciated!
'twas good to meet everyone. I look forward to an even bigger bash in September. This sort of thing--the support and comaraderie from other Forums folks--really seems to be one of the best benefits of owning a TDI.
BTW, I got caught up in a group of road racers on my way home. Just crossed the Columbia, and a good bunch (somewhere between 30 and 50) of riced out Hondas appeared, all going about 20-30 MPH over the limit. As per crowd mentality, I found myself driving with them for a while (even a short while after they left the freeway--not my exit at all), and eventually found myself unable to restrain laughter at some of their cars. Certainly, many of them could have beaten me without thinking by any of their standards of what makes a car. I just couldn't help but appreciate that the thing that makes my car, and so it seems with most other TDIers, is the sheer drivability--while showing off is nice, we don't seem to need to show off to enjoy our vehicle, and we seem to gather not to display how much better we are than each other but to help one another make theirs the best possible ride. Maybe I have their culture wrong, but the idea of only being satisfied with one's car when
others approve seems simply absurd.
Anyhow. It was a great time. I encourage any and all anywhere to try to at least make an appearance at their next "local" GTG.
