Heater issue

Having an issue getting heat lately and traced it down to the internal temperature sensor (located in the climatronic faceplate).

It's a chilly day (8 degrees C) but the internal temperature sensor is displaying 23 degrees in vagcom. If I place a icepack on the sensor, I get heat again.

Any clues?

As odd as it sounds, try this...
Turn the temperature dial up to full hot, back to the middle for a brief moment then back up to hot. The car must be running as you do this. Also have the fan at least two clicks up. This will make the aux heater run so long as the rpm's are above 1500rpm.

Volks 27:
Check the sensor. There should be a published spec for it...ie x resistance @ y temp. The older cars used an inverse resistance (lower resistance at higher temp) so a dirty connection could result in a low heat situation.
ATR:
Good to know the criteria for aux heat operation.

Kinda hard to verify it, it's buried in the faceplate (as far as I know).

Thanks for your reply. It's kinda hard to see if this does anything as my issue is that I only have heat on "full hot"; because the sensor thinks the car interior is above 25C.

What year Golf do you have??? (might want to update your user cp to show what model you have under your name like I do right below my screen name ;))

FYI there is a TSB out there for this issue:

For 2011-2012 there is a TSB# 2028678 with title: "Update Programming Climate Control Software Update" said:
The description is: "Customer may complain that heater is not blowing hot enough, even with heater control set to MAX heat position, especially after vehicle sits overnight, or for long periods of time. Customer may also state that heat will temporarily return once they manipulate the heater control knob."

The solution is: "Introduction of new software beginning January 23, 2012.".
I still haven't taken my car to the dealer to get this fixed on my car, but I know if I turn the heat down a few clicks from the "H" setting then back up again it'll blow some serious hot air instead of cold or luke warm air.

2012, so maybe it's the bug you mentioned. I'm out of warranty, not sure if they would fix it

I'd say go to the dealer and mention to them "TSB# 2028678". They may do it free of charge, they might not... Worth a shot either way.
