Headlights for MK4

Hello everyone,

I know I am new here and asking questions right off the bat…my apologies.

Any recommendations for a headlight assembly for a MK4 Jetta? I bought the TYC ones and they were like strapping 2 dying flashlights to the front of the car.

I’m in Canada so a Canadian supplier would be preferred but not necessary.

Thank you for your time.

Good info in here.

I am a golf guy, they have much better headlights, so you could always do a front end swap...

Also there is always an aftermarket solution such as a light bar/dots.
You can see the light bars on my golf and my brothers jetta. The jetta has a shockingly good fit that replaces the lower centre grille, the golf got clamped to the lower centre grille. Feel free to ask about details if you want to go that route. They seem to be of dubious legality in places, but I also live in BC, and have never had an issue. Fernie is a small town with "rednecks", I doubt it would fly so well in a city such as Victoria.

Not sure if it's different in BC but out here as long as the light bar is below the headlights it's fine, but if it's above the headlights you need a cover on it while driving on public roads. I've seen lots of people here with light bars on the roof though and they rarely have covers, so I'm not sure if it's really enforced often.
It technically is also "illegal" to use it on a public road at night.

The best headlights for the Mk4 are OE/OEM Hella, Valeo, and Bosch. 90% of aftermarket headlight internals are not worth it. Good bulbs in OEM housings are the best low-cost bet. Jetta headlamps are noticeably worse than Golf equivalents, but finding good parts for a front end swap can be slow and/or pricey. You can also create HIDs using OEM housings, we have threads which a search will reveal.

Look for a set of Ecode headlights with fog lights and upgrade the bulbs. I have done just bulb upgrade, Ecodes and HID projector conversion. Best lighting/price was the Ecodes on my Jetta.
