Well I have searched but found nothing and called parts places and nothing so here goes. I have a 2004 bug. The other morning Im at work and get an email from a coworker. "Your headlight on your bug has fallen out and is laying on the parking deck...' After checking it out the lens cover had fallen off of the headlight. After looking at real close its just held together by some sort of grey goo. There is a channel in the back part of the lens and that fits into a grove in the lens assembly. This fits in and the goo does the rest. After calling the dealer looking for some more goo I was informed that this is made as one piece and doesnt come apart and mine is broken. The replacement is $210. Yea right. I looked the other side and it is not made as a singel piece. It might come from the factory as one piece but its not. Anyways no parts place has anything they think will hold nor anyone else so far. Surely there must be something out there. The original stuff exists somewhere. Anyone?

Scrap yard? Closest one to me had lots of taillights and headlight assemblies. Which side are you looking for? No Bugs, but that was 2 weeks ago...

Around here you cant find a used vw part in any parts yard. Anyway there is not anything really wrong with the whole assembly other then the lens will no longer stay stuck.

Epoxy? Silicon? I have my VW emblem stuck on the front grill with rubber-based contact cement. Some kids tried to take it one night, but all they did was bust up the mounting points without getting the emblem out. It's been glued back in through about 6+ years using this: http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/904-299

It is part of a one-piece assembly, separate parts not available. You might be able to get a set used from someone who has upgraded their NB to HID's. Check out www.newbeetle.org

 Always a bunch in the yards around here and I know I've heard at least of there being a decent stock in the Greensboro You-Pull-It yard. Almost always at least 1 New Beetle in the LKQ in Durham!

I bought a set of lenses from forum member. Then followed the "Joey mod" diy for removal instructions. Used a heat gun to separate the lens and used silicon to reinstall.
1 year later still tight and clear

I just put glass lenses on my Jetta. To undo the goo you pit the whole headlamp assembly in the oven @ 250F for 15 min and it comes apart easy. To put it back together with the new glass lens, clear silicone is the recommend.

They've been looking great with no infiltration or other issues for over a month now.

Don't think they have to worry about glass lenses. None for the New Beetle as far as I ever found. Even Ecodes were just plastic lenses.

Glass headlights (got a full set of ecodes) were the first real mod for my 20th.

Thanks to all. Just found the answer on newbeetle.org. This stuff:

http://www.amazon.com/Momentive-GE2...RQBE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1335900229&sr=8-1

Just order it from Amazon. Looks like it should and has worked. What a rip off from VW.
Not a rip off from VW. You could have used probably any silicone gasket sealer for this job. If nothing was broken or torn up, it was your choice to replace it with new or just seal it back up. Glad you found the "approved" glue for this job though. $4 is a lot better.

I would have just gone to a FLAPS and got this:

Well just my opinion on the ripoff. All the people at the dealership had to say was we only sell the whole assembly but you can seal it back on with some sort of sealer. The only thing they would offer is a new one for $210....not what I consider customer service or customer oriented. Not that VW dealerships have been.

Its their JOB to sell parts. What they try and sell you sometimes isn't the cheapest fix. They're looking out for THEIR best interest not YOURS.

The good thing is. It worked out for you and you probably learn a couple of things.

Thanks dweisel. I always do when i work on either one of mine. But u know wouldnt it be nice if you could find a dealership and car company that blieved that your best interest was their best interest. Saturn started out that way. For some reason auto makers just cant seem to digest that. I really find almost all of them completely distasteful...like politicians. You elect a politician and guess what you get in office....a politician.
