For chipped and stock cars under heavy load / acceleration an extra quantity of air into the intake would be good right?!

Well then how about a SECONDARY air duct into the stock airbox FROM THE FRONT GRILLE!?
It might not be very original but I surely haven't seen / heard of it before.
Not from the middle of the hood as in some SUVs or powerful coupes but from the front grille.

Why from there? Because at high speeds (80 mph - 100 mph) you have air practically PUSHED into the intake. While from the engine compartment air is not pushed.

NEEEEEEED INPUT: anything ranging from "great ideea" to "idiot's best".

PS: I would fit this duct into the snorkel but not in front of the snorkel but at its middle and (don't shout at me!) WITH a snowscreen to protect from extra sh|t from the road such as debris, rain, dust, soot etc.

Is it stupid?

You only need more air if you have cranked up fuel delivery so far that you're getting black smoke. Otherwise, there's no benefit.

In any case, the ram-air effect isn't significant until speeds that are well in excess of what one ought to be doing on public roadways ...

well.....
I was afraid it would be a fiasco including the possibility of hydrolocking the engine during rain / splash from car in front... I would have built a drain in it to prevent massive water input....

But if you tell me that more air is not needed.... WAIT! Why are people installing K&Ns if more air is not needed?! Explain that!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">because they want to go to ricer land. The TDI (I'm going to get in trouble here..) doesnt need a K&N filter. In fact, it's very easy to speculate that a K&N, which has larger pores than a stock filter, can let more dirt in, especially if they are not oiled properly.
Think you get more power from a K&N, take the filter out completely and see if you notice more power. I'll bet you dont.

The A4 filter is the same as used on the VR6 and 150 HP PD. It is not an impediment to making HP in the TDI application.

And there's already a duct from the front grill that feeds air to the air box. That's how the snorkel gets its air.

Boost pressure is regulated by the ECU.

If you try to ram more air in then the ECU will simply back off the turbo to compensate. The same amount of air will enter the engine as before. At least that is how I heard it explained.

The only side effect of that I guess would be lower air temperatures as the turbo isn't working quite so hard. The effect would be tiny I'm sure.
