My wife owned a Nissan Murano with CVT. She liked it well because it had a Bose sound system - her automotive priority. All she knew was the car propelled itself forward when she selected "D" and pressed the pedal.

I didn't like the CVT and would not own one for myself.

Gorgeous car. I didn't realize they put out that much torque. Confgrats!
Thanks! That's the problem with it. I'm torn between driving to save fuel and driving for fun.

CVT's have come a long way since the early iterations. I haven't driven a Civic with one, but the CVT in the Fit is terrific.
I had a CVT in my Ford Escape Hybrid several years ago. Didn't both me, other than it took me a little time to get used to the constant spin up of the engine, rather than the "stepped" spin up of a regular transmission.

Strangely enough, the e-tron has a 6-speed dual clutch transmission. You can even get paddle shifters in the sport package.

My experience has been the same. While its not a manual or will ever be, if I am considering an automatic the CVT is fine. I've driven many a subaru with their current CVT and it works very nicely short of one that had an annoying extra second delay when going into reverse. A far cry from a nissan CVT sentra I rented, that one was really terrible.

Even the Prius drives decently, but it isnt a CVT.

Picked up a 2011 Xterra with 65k miles on it about a month ago. I needed something that could tow, and the X can do it well. The JSW has been sitting (except for 2 rides) ever since.

Bose sound systems in cars are awful. I had one in my old Infiniti FX45 and it was worst sound quality I have heard. Everyone said Bose: no highs no lows. I think they must just license their names to the car companies and they put whatever parts they want into the car.

Replaced it dollar for dollar with a 2012 Subaru Outback 6sp MT premium with cold weather package. Love the AWD (Michigan Winter, Bring it!) and increased cabin space. Hate the MPG!

My wife is driving the Subie while I wring the last dregs of enjoyment out of the TDI until we hand it over.

Might have kept it if it wasn't for the need for AWD. EGR flap is gone again too! if it wasn't for the EPA having their paws all over diesel emissions we might have kept it and did the DPF delete but there are just too many variables for me to justify keeping it when we are getting such a great buyback deal.

I'm originally from the UK and mostly always driven small diesels. Oh well, at least I still have my old F250 6.9 IDI

Met someone near Mt Hood last summer that had the diesel version. He said he could cruise in upper 20s all day.

My wife thought her Nissan's stereo was the best car system she had heard. I don't have a clue. I have significant hearing loss from years as a submarine crew member.

My wife loves music and believed the system in her Murano was the best car sound she had heard.

I don't have an opinion. I have significant hearing loss from my years on ships and submarines.

For van conversion motorhomes I think the MB w/TDI would be the way to go.
Owned one for 8 years and 58K miles. Had a lot of fun with it and now I love my 32' gas motorhome, king bed, large kitchen and tremendous fluid holding capabilities. Different tools for different needs just like cars.

My wife and I put a deposit on a 2016 Hyundai Sonata Plug-In Hybrid. I was looking for something with similar fuel economy and I really liked the features in the PHEV. Hyundai has really come a LONG way in its years in the states.

Also, I've just read through this entire thread and I'm very very curious about people who have put deposits on 2015 TDIs. This is a huge what if... but what happens if the EPA and CARB doesn't approve any fix, even for the newer generation TDIs? Would you seriously feel duped? I can't even believe dealerships are even giving an option for you to buy the left over '15s.

Lastly, my '14 Jetta TDI has the Fender audio... Hands down best sound system I've ever heard from a stock radio system and that includes the Bose system on the Nissan and on a Toyota 4 Runner. But that's just my opinion.

Did you look at the Rav-4 hybrid? Just wondering what you compared the Hyundai to.

Oops, thought that was an SUV.
