I called up USAA six years ago when I was going through a divorce and they gave me a new loan with a lower rate and extended term and gave me two months of non-payments to start off. They seem pretty flexible.
Yup. USAA is a great company to deal with. Insurance, banking, investments, etc. They have great customer service and will work with you for "change in circumstance" issues. I went through a divorce and my then soon-to-be ex had an accident. They were good about compartmentalizing her accident and not letting any of the fallout spill over to impact me.

Just don't deal with USAA for a mortgage. They have a contractor that handles that for them. You'll be on pins and needles the entire time (terrible communication) and then their contractor will pitch you off to PHH after closing (PHH isn't bad to deal with). Check out the reviews on their website. They have great reviews for every service EXCEPT mortgages.

Just picked up a late model pre-owned BMW Gran Turismo last Thursday. It was between that and a pre-owned 328d and they sold the d before I could drive it.

I got rather used to the Golf hatch carting my cycle and other things around and this GT gives me more room, more horsepower and more torque. Of course, premium gas is more $ than diesel right now so there is more of that as well.

It seems the Tuesday deadline may be causing a bump in the used VW market. I have a bunch of cars saved in cars.com, most are 2015 slightly used, nicely equipped GTIs; either SE trim or Autobaun. These have been anywhere from around $22K to 25 and most are 20K miles or less.

I have received notification that 4 of these have sold in the last few days--the lowest priced ones. It looks a lot like the run on the 2015 TDIs that suddenly vanished. When I first ran this search about three weeks ago or so, some of these had been on the market for months, with few or even no saves. In fact, there are still some leftover 2016s and even a couple 2015s that are brand new!

This makes me want to pounce, but without having the buyback set, I also do not want a big loan even if I am going to pay most of it off shortly. I have experienced the reality that "good things come to those who wait" many times, but I also don't want to be stuck with paying more than I should need to as the demand grows.

I wonder how long sellers would honor a deposit to hold it, as is happening with the 2015 TDIs (?)

Perhaps it's just an initial surge, and the 2016's will be coming in soon as well. And there are already TONS of 2016 S trim with low miles, but I really want the lights and sunroof!

I watched cars.com and autotrader.com for awhile and talked to several VW dealers who had almost new used TDIs for sale. I found the dealers would not negotiate.

After we learned what our buy-back/restitution-repair figures were likely to be I noticed sales began moving.

I opted to purchase my replacement then when I could buy what I wanted because I expected the TDIs would soon disappear and prices would surge upward.

I think you're seeing sales moving now in anticipation of the cash that VW will soon be handing out.

Your caution and logic are unquestionably the mature and responsible approach. However, the risk takers are not going to follow your cautious approach. They are already making deals and putting down deposits.

I predict that finding what you truly want assuming it will be the same choices many others will make may become very difficult. You may be disappointed.

Man, that is the truth! We love USAA for everything, but their contractor (and by extension, they) screwed up our refi totally. We actually went through closing, wrote the final check for the old mortgage and then waited for the new loan to take over. The next call we got was from our old loan company asking why we hadn't paid our mortgage. The USAA contractor never filed the paperwork or paid off the old mortgage! After some scrambling, some loud phone calls, and another closing, we finally got it done. Just terrible service bordering on criminal.

Had to deal with USAA on a claim for a rental car accident once (the other guy's fault). They were a little too willing to just accept what the other insurance company was going to cover, leaving us liable for loss of use of the rental car. I had to "suggest" to USAA that we weren't going to pay it, and instead tell the other insurer to do so. USAA did, and the other guys covered.

Sorry for the OT rant. To make up for it, here's a picture of my TDI replacement.

We have 2 Passat TDI's, a 2013 Passat SEL Premium and a 2014 Passat SE 6 speed manual. Have had an antifreeze leak on the 2014 and the dealer couldn't find it when it was on warranty. Now it is leaking where the underside of the car is wet, but they still said they couldn't find the leak. Now that is past warranty they want me to pay to fix it. I needed a 2nd car so we just purchased a 2017 Passat SE with technology gasser for $23,000.00. Sticker said just under $30,000.00. Love the 2013 Passat but not ready to deal with this leak issue. So going to give it back, collect my $22 + and wife will drive the 2017 and I will drive her SEL Premium and I only have to come up with a few thousand for the new car. I am 62 years old and this will be our first gasser besides my Harlys.

Recently refinanced with them. Their contractor was a dimwit! :p Great company though.

That's a whopping discount. How did you manage to negotiate that? That is double the discount I am seeing.

I just went on line and did a lot of shopping and had a dealer south of here send a quote for this price. I was in Spokane so I took the quote to the Post Falls dealer and they matched it. The best part the west side sales tax was 9.3% and I got 8.1% sales tax rate because I purchased the car in Idaho, so they base the tax rate on my location, Deer Park Wa. Both times that we were in the dealer we never saw any other customers. I think due to the emissions scandal, buyers may not be coming into the show room and they may be hungry.

Nice!
Please share the specs..
Thanks! 2016 A3 Sportback e-tron. Premium Plus, with the Technology Package (LED lighting/headlights, Audi Connect, MMI Plus, blah blah blah). Need to pick up cross bars for the roof rails.

Gas/electric plug-in hybrid. 204 combined HP, 258 ft-lbs combined torque. My last tank I got 95 MPG without factoring in the cost of the electricity used to charge it. Factoring that in, I figure I got ~53 MPG.

Fun car. The cabin is similar in size (but more nicely appointed) to my 2012 JSW, but cargo space is about 1/3 of the JSW. Though it looks similar to a JSW/GSW, it's more directly comparable to the Golf.

Nice, I just picked this up:

I work from home a lot now, so don't use as much gas, besides, I can get 30mpg on the highway in this! Sure is fun, enjoy the Camaro.

Awesome ride! I will enjoy mine and I'm sure you will enjoy yours!
I know you will enjoy yours! I have a neighbor that also picked one up and it's pretty cool, I think the new Camaros are great. Like that blue a lot too.

Here it is at home....it really is fun! My commute to work netted 27.4 mpg, not bad for a big V8

Gorgeous car. I didn't realize they put out that much torque. Congrats!

Had to purchase New 2016 Camry SE for my daughter, but since she is too young to drive yet, I will drive it for couple of years. Not as fun as vw passat tdi, but it will do for comute to work.

My VW is sitting in my shed awaiting the buy back. With the recall on the Takata air bag, the steering switch recall and the electrical recall . All of which the dealership said they won't fix due to the buy back . My wife is afraid to drive the dam car. Went and bought her another vehicle already. The Diesel gate Car sits unused until the buy back. Got her a new Ford

I bought a 2012 Leaf SL a few Friday's ago. PITA since I bought it in Seattle and I live in eastern Washington - about 170 miles from Seattle. I still have the Jetta but haven't driven it since getting the Leaf. I'll use it tomorrow - have to travel to Spokane. Brought the Leaf home on a car dolly!

Once the Jetta is back in the hands of VW I'll be looking for another car. A luxo-barge with at least 25mpg economy will work fine for those every other month's trip to my 'local' Costco - 50 miles one way. Costco's neighbor is a Nissan dealer. They have a free quick charger for any Leaf with the quick charge port which mine has. The trouble with the quick charge is the battery pack only gets to 80% charge and the computer shuts off any further charge. Maybe I'll try that one day. Just don't want to come up short!

I've already installed a 240v charger so the car is ready to go in about 3-4 hours with 100% charge. With the 120v trickle charger it can take up to 15-18 hours from near depleted.

Since the Leaf will get me to 90% or more of the places I go to (golf! 4-5 days per week - I'm retired!) on a daily/weekly basis it made perfect sense - didn't hurt that the electric rates where I live is 4.1 cent per KWH. Right at a buck to charge from 10% or less left in the batteries. I laughed as I passed by my normal fill up place where the sign said "Diesel - $2.719" !!!

Why CVT? Seriously just curious, I remember driving some earlier ones and didn't prefer them.
Only way to get some of the trim features I wanted, CVT is standard on the EX package.

After 400 miles with it, I am very happy with the CVT.

CVT's have come a long way since the early iterations. I haven't driven a Civic with one, but the CVT in the Fit is terrific.
