Has anyone selected check yet?

With reading some of the delays with people getting their EFT money I am thinking about choosing the check option. Anyone else done this and seen any kind of delays or drawbacks to it?

The only drawback, which is really only a potential delay, is if you bump into the next mileage bracket. In that case, VW keeps the car, voids your check, and mails you the revised payment.

Some cite the bank placing a hold on the check for a few days as a drawback, but again, it's just a delay.

An EFT can't blow away in the wind, and once the transfer hits your account it's instantly available. But there's the potential for delay there, too.

Ultimately, it's just your preference. I don't see any serious cons to either method.

I don't drive my car so I am not concerned with the mileage bracket. I read a post where the guy was on day 5 of his supposed 3 day EFF and hasn't seen anything yet. Has anyone actually received their EFT money yet?

My wife doesn't like having to give them our banking information. She's elected to have a check.

Public service announcement: your bank account and routing number are printed onto any check you deposit into your account, so either way, that info is out there to whichever way they pay you.

In addition to what @PacCoast says, the same information is also on every check you write. Beyond that, you aren't giving VW any banking information; you're giving it to Chase, a major bank in their own right. But as you wish--I don't see that there's a really strong reason to go either way.

Just got the buyback appointment, December 22nd @ 2:30 p.m.

Had 2 VWs, a Cabrio and a Jetta. Guess that'll be it. Wanted one back in 1963 when I bought a 1957 Chrysler monster with automatic. Wanted a Beetle with stick shift. Couldn't afford one. Got the Chrysler for $400. Any Beetle I wanted was around $1,500.

Got a Mazda3 now, a BMW at Mazda3 price. Thinking about getting a Miata, too.

Then put your money where your mouth is and include your checking account and routing number, your full legal name and physical address with your post. Weird that you didn't.

In the retro analog world it is very difficult to attach a massive vacuum and hoover up personal data and sell it on the black market.

It is likely that of the half million people supplying banking information for this settlement, over 10% have a device that is infected and do not not know it.

Yes, you are not providing the keys to your financial vault; but you are providing info that will certainly help them.

Why would you want to give your routing and account numbers to someone you are not having a financial transaction with?

I know someone who is morbidly suspicious in financial transactions. For this reason, he does not even have a checking account. He pays his utility bills in cash at authorized payment locations, and when he has to pay a bill via mail, he goes down to WalMart and buys a money order.

Going through life requires taking of some risks. The balancing of the potential risks against the benefits of taking the risk is a matter for each individual. Chase already has my checking account information because I pay my Chase credit card on line, and they take the money out of my account.

That's lame. I'm simply starting a fact.

Look at any personal check you've written to anybody, after the bank processes it, and you'll realize you did just that. And you'll also see the account and routing number belonging to the person you wrote the check to, usually printed on the back.

Go ahead and get hysterical. Act stupid. Demand your payment in cash or Bitcoin. I'm only saying saying what is.

A lot of folks are suspicious of EFT and confuse it with "online banking" and point to paper checks as the safe, old fashioned way. It's pretty much the same thing.

I have an employee who still takes paper payroll checks. Didn't want EFT because "he'll get hacked." He had to sit down with the payroll person because, surprise, he hasn't deposited A LOT of his checks. We still owe him that money. Want a downside to checks? That's a good one.

Like I said in another thread Passing a bad check is a crime and at the amounts of these checks it would be a felony. Leaving without even getting a receipt much less payment is for suckers. Try to call the district attorney on that one. All VW has to say is they never got your car.

I have sold cars to Car Max and I have always gotten checks. Sold cars to private people an have gotten checks or cash. Give me your check and let me see your drivers license and you are good to go.

When you trade in your car do you get a receipt with all the documentation that they will pay off your car or do you just say you will let them give you a receipt via email when they get around to it? Common sense seems to be lacking. We aren't dealing with an honest or competent company here.

WOW must be nice .. you guys are talking about getting checks and EFT money . My paperwork was submitted on 9/26/2016 and signed by VW ( Return Receipt ) As of 11/30 have still not heard a word. Called on 11/30 after 2 hours on hold. " LEN " told me my paperwork was good and would be hearing from them on December 5th.. Well nothing as yet. How long are the rest of your waiting. ??

I think the best reason for getting a check would be so that you could make a copy of it as proof of payment for your car. To get a Vermont sales tax credit, I have to show who I sold it to, when, and what I was paid for it. At this point, with EFT, all I have is some e-mails and a piece of paper receipt they printed out for me at the turn in meeting with the buyback specialist.

I submitted my notarized offer today, no loan on the car, and after selecting check as payment mine also said check would be mailed.:mad:
I hope that is not the case, I selected check because of all the issues with the EFT process....

I sold my golf back today and received a check directly from "settlement specialist" in the exact amount as my offer letter.
