QA on a BEW? Hammer mod does not pertain to the BEW as well. Other than that, I do not have a clue as to the hard starting issue. Where did you buy the cam sensor?

I just fixed my own hard start problem, 98 Beetle TDI. Crank speed sounded a little slow, but not terrible. Put a new starter on it today, turns out it had a gas starter on it. The right starter made such a huge difference. It cranks like a mother now and pops right off. So the moral is crank speed is important, be sure your starting system is in good repair with the correct battery and starter.

I've been to Leadville, CO a number of times, as I like to visit what was once Texas from time to time... Anyway, it's one of the highest towns in the country at 10,000 feet. No hard starting, but it was summer and not cold. Optilube or other additives don't seem to have any effect I could ever tell.
