It will get a new water pump anyways. Everything in the t-belt pathway will be replaced.

It is possible they tensioned the belt improperly, or turned the tensioner wrong, or did not have it indexed correctly...who knows. I KNOW they installed the belt wrong, the tell-tale paint marks and pump cranked way off to one side confirm that with zero doubt.

01M service runs about $250, skidplate is $600 installed, injector upgrades for your car not too bad because I can swap in some good 5-speed units for a couple hundred for you if you like. I have one customer that has a 2002 Jetta 5 spd with only 58k miles on it that was purchased new and only maintained by me that would be a good donor as he wants to upgrade his to the next biggest.
Thanks for the info; I really want it all fixed correctly. And what's your opinion on *getting chipped*? If you've got time to type a few more words, I'd appreciate your insight. And you need to realize that you'll be explainin' this to a "Dumb and Dumber" type. *Getting chipped* seems to be the "cat's meow" around here. :)

Bye for now,
William

There are just too many to list....
"Chipped" means (nowadays, anyways) a software upgrade...meaning the program the ECU uses to run the engine gets modified/changed/overwritten to make the engine more powerful.

When you change nozzles, you allow more fueling to the engine which also gives more power. You can get software that is written to take advantage of the larger injectors as well.

On the ALH, for best driveability, I recommend 1: bigger nozzles, 2: software, and if that is not enough, 3: even BIGGER nozzles, BIGGER turbo, straight exhaust, and more aggressive software. But keep in mind step 3 can hurt fuel economy, longevity, and give you some smoke. You already have a $4700 liability bolted to your engine, so I'd start with step 1 and see how you like it. It's cheap, easy, and you can undo it if you are not happy (although I can almost guarantee you will be happy).

I'd also recommend then the 01M be recoded for 'sport' mode, new fluid and filter put in, and letting me take it for a thorough test drive :D

No fears ..... we snuck our camera into the offending dealership's service bay and caught the mechanic performing the actual TB Job. Here is the uploaded picture:

We also caught our man Oilhammer during a rare coffee break deep in thought pondering the repair:

Please remove greg from the list. He himself requested it. He's too busy with his own biz right now.

Here are some places that might be near you. Don't hesitate to take even 3-4hours away for a real mechanic, its well worth it even if you have to pay a couple hundred to get the tow.
