I actually saw a first gen in Ft. Wayne about a month ago, it was pulling into the driveway of what I would call a mansion

There are just too many to list....
They are very nice cars. Nice if you want to drive a big luxobarge, but do so under the radar. People won't judge you as harshly driving a $100k Volkswagen as much as they would driving an $80k Lexus.

The most expensive MSRP'd one of these I ever saw was a 4-passenger W12 model, it was $109k and change. :D

You can pick up used V8 models now for not much more than a new Versa. :)

I've seen a few running around the DC metro area. Not many lately, though.

One of our club members, Meganuke, owned one for a few years.

Yeah, it was one of his pet projects. That's what happens when the "People's Car" company gets run by rich aristocrats that married into the Porsche family. I wonder if Piech has even been in a Beetle?

Strange. I saw one yesterday near North Charleston on my way back to ATL. I was surprised to see it because I haven't seen one in years. Very rare.

There is one in my town I see all the time. Here is my take on these. Expensive new and thus expensive when something goes wrong, without question.

When my window clip broke in a snow storm filling the back seat up with snow i pulled into the shop next to a phaeton with the same problem and the owner laughed with the comment "$24K car or a $90K car they use the same crappy plastic parts".

There are a couple running around charlotte. One near me. Always wonder who really parted with the money for the initial purchase. There's 2 on ebay. One currently at $7250 and the other at $9300 but wants $50K.
