I was wondering if anyone knows yet if you had a vagcom and a guage cluster from a mkv jetta if you could swap them out for the gauge group in the mkvi? I must admit I am a sucker for analog guages even if they are idiot guages(no better than idiot light, ie temp only reads cold warm or overheated) they do look nice filling the hole. That and you would get a bigger screen for the MFD... just wonderin if anyone knows?

That could be interesting too. If the attachment points are all the same I'm sure there are probably a few aftermarket gauge packages in Europe. The guages in the 2011 polo gti are real nice. I wonder if that would work?... 2nd thought that might not work, no glow plug light.... possibly out of the 1.4 tdi?

Do the '11s have digital displays in the cluster?

The gauges in my '10 are "analog". The gauges in my '09 were also analog. I would think that the shape of the dash and clusters are different.

or did you mean the Jetta. Yes the 2011 Jetta uses a multi function display for fuel and temp.

Has the MFD gone completely away, even in the SEL and TDI Jettas? Meaning, are you no longer able to cycle through instant fuel economy, average fuel economy, distance to empty, etc.?

The VW.ca website says the tdi comes with the multifunction trip computer, but it doesn't show it for the 2.0 or the 2.5. I think the pic we all are seeing is if the gauge cluster for the 2.0 without the mtc. VW.ca has been slow updating the pics of the Jetta on their site I've noticed.

edit: I think if you get the multimedia package that comes with the multifucntion steering wheel you get the trip computer too.

you get MFD but its still 1/2 the size, you will use the right stalk to go thru the functions, only thing i dont like is the fact outside temp is one of those options as well. in my old car i always had a seperate section for outside temp and i always kept DTE for MFD. Ohh well, Polo gauges, here i come :)

I found this pic today of the EU version of the gauges for the 2011 Jetta. Might be worth a trip to Germany next year.

I don't know for what motor these are for but there must be some nicer gauges in the parts catalog out there somewhere. Now to find out the part number!!

Looks like real leather seats in there too.

Looks the same as a 2010-11 Golf cluster to me. So in theory, one might just have to swap in the appropriate engine-specific cluster from a U.S. Golf to get the instrument cluster that looks worthy of a modern day VW rather than something out of a 15 year old American car.

Lets hope so! That would make life much easier.

Found this pic of a '10 Golf TDI cluster on VWvortex. You can see that that cluster is basically the same as the ones pictured above in the European MkVI Jetta. What I don't know is whether or not the actual fit is the same because it looks like the interior trim around the cluster may be different.

EDIT: Nevermind, there are visual differences in the clusters, though the gauge faces seem to be the same. Hmm, perhaps we're back to the MkIV day when retrofitting a U.K. cluster into the car was necessary to gain a certain "look" because there wasn't a comparable U.S. cluster. I'm thinking about the U.K. sport cluster I had in my '02 GTI VR6.

Why oh why couldn't we at least get this cluster & wheel on the highlines/SEL???

If these parts are available I would definitely change them in my highline TDI!

The pics I've seen of the 2011 multifunction steering wheel are missing buttons on one of the sides of the steering wheel. Does that mean you have to use the windshield wiper lever to scroll thru the MFD?

Yup.. have to use the rocker switch on the right stalk to scroll through the mfd. And the MFD is much smaller than the one in these 'euro' jetta pics.

Hi All,
I have the Canadian edition of the 2011 Jetta TDI Highline. In the owners manual section covering the MFD it refers to engine temp as one of the displays, however I can't seem to find it on mine.
Does anyone know if engine/coolant temp is shown anywhere on the gauge cluster?
Thanks

The Canadian TDI highline(which i just took delivery of) does not have a MFD. It has temp, fuel and milage. That's it. Can't even get it as an option. Weak sauce IMO.

It does. When I asked the dealership they said it didn't (not on steering wheel) so I had to read in the book and find for myself.
