Hey folks...

I have been pretty distant for a while, and I have not been able to make many GTG in a long time! I missed the one this past weekend, but I hope to make it out to this one ... whenever it happens.

A question I have of you folks; Anyone recommend a Winter tire? Cheap, economical, and a good all-around tire. I do not care much about noise, as long as she grabs when it is supposed to! My all-seasons don't have much rubber left (damn upsolute chip, don't know why the rubber on the fronts are gone so quick) and am looking for a cheap set of winters to tie me over...

Anyone have a tire machine I can use to swap these tires on the existing OEM rims? I know how to do it, just need the tire machine and balancer to complete it... Any recommendations are welcome... /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Well, they're not DIRT cheap, but I see that Walmart now carries Dunlop Graspic snow tires, the same ones I used over the last winter and really like. To boot, Walmart's prices prices seem VERY, VERY good compared to mine which were bought direct from Tire Rack in the U.S. while I lived there! Bigger bonus is that the Graspics are available in low-profile sizes that most imports are now fitted with (e.g. 195/65-15 used on A4s).

I'm trying to track down some Power Service. I hear it's available at Flying J. The website for Flying J doesn't work, does anyone know where some are located in the greater, greater Toronto Area. Anything north of seven would be great!

Rick D selss the 96oz bottles for $20 taxes in. He is located near 401/427. If you can wait till the next GTG, it will probably be at his place.

For a location north of 7, I have seen it at the Petro Canada truck stop at hwy 50 & Rutherford Rd. They also have 5w40 Duron synthetic there too.

Depending on what work people need doing, the main reason to GTG is hang out & help other members with any issues or maintenance they may need. Sometimes there are TB changes. I did a brake job & suspension install last week. Another member installed a coolant heater. And lots of Vag-comming going on. Lots lo learn and good discussions to be had.

I just have nothing better to do on a blustery Saturday than to hang out with a bunch of car nuts and munch on donuts /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Are Yankees welcome too? Technically, I am not a Yankee since I'm from VA (for those Civil War buffs out there), but my best buddies are in Toronto and would love to see them and check out the Canadian TDI's. I'll bring the bourbon! /images/graemlins/eek.gif

I'll be bringing a jug of Delvac 1 for one of the guys. If any other fellow Delvac die-hards want some, let me know so I can order a case in time. Cost is $32 per 4-litre jug, all taxes included.

Delvac 1...elixer of the TDI gods.

I need a TB and WP done. I have the kit from Harvieux but no tools. Any chance of someone who can assist and show a non-mechanic how to do this work?

Hello to everyone I met at the last GTG. It was my first and certainly won't be my last. I got a chance to meet some great people and to learn a lot. Saved me a lot of money too!!

I have two special shout outs;
The first one is to Nigel for helping me out with my glow plugs. The relay is now changed and although that seemed to have it all fixed, it was once again extremely reluctant to start this morning????? I'm gonna have to run some more tests...
The second goes out to Vlad for hosting this thing and for cooking it up for us. Now I know croatians are great cooks!

I'll definitely try to be there on the 20th and if so would once again require the help of the experts. The problem this time is a hissing noise coming from the engine bay whenever it's cold outside. It's like a seal is not doing it's job. It's a constant hiss, which goes up a notch when I step on the gas and goes out in a looping high pitched sound when I kill the engine. (???????)

Hope to be there and to see everyone of you there!

Yeap, you got a real problem now...

Man oh man, you'll have to probably change the engine...

Just kidding, the turbo makes that noise, and when it's cold you ear it more (it's related to the air being cold, don't know the details). /images/graemlins/grin.gif
