This thread shouldn't be buried so deeply. I have a hard time finding it. I plan to attend. Is there anything You need as far as help? You mention eating well, well someone has to pay for or bring the food.

Is there a donation box, food sign up sheet or what?

just wondering how the food is taken care of?

Also, there will be a need for plastic gloves, shop towels, containers to handle the oil. Feel free to add anything to the needs list.

I may be available to do some light welding jobs. Carbon steel MIG. not sure about the transport of gas cylinder and welder in my car. If someone else has welding/cutting equipment, and are planning on bringing it, let me know
We will likely just have a kitty for the food.
Everyone should bring drinks. I will have a 150 quart cooler to throw them in.
Bring a desert or dish if you wish, but we will have the basics there.
I can typically handle any oil or lube disposal.
But if anyone is draining coolant, plan on taking it back to dispose of yourself.

Not sure what the need is for a welder or torch (though they would come in handy quite often.) We'll see, Cody.

Still a complete noob to the TDI world and wish that I could be there. I am soooo wanting to get my timing checked and get a stage 2 performance chip for my 06 Jetta. Unfortunately I am still deployed to Kuwait with my unit and won't be back stateside until April. So I am already looking forward to the summer gtg and hope to meet you all then!

Hey everyone, Will try to make it. Work may interfer, but that is what sick time is for:D. Would like to put in some solid bushings and ball joints on the front..... let me know if that is too much for a meet. Have a new glow plug harness, would like to install and maybe even get rid of the check engine light. Look forward to seeing everyone. -Rob

I'll try to be there! The '84 Vanagon with TDI engine will not be ready for the trip unless some awesome magic happens in the next 27 days.....which I seriously doubt!

One thing I'd like to get done on my 2000 Jetta is the door lock repair. The driver's door will not lock with the remote. Neither of the remotes will lock it, but both will open it.

I'll bring my LapTop with VCDS for those wanting to do a little looking around and, I'll be gland to help with the things I know how to do with it.

My head lights need a new and improved polishing!:D

Do people bring Tents.....like stand-ups to bear the cold (pray for great weather)?

Yes, pop ups can come in quite handy in rain or snow.

It seems very unusual for a door to not lock with the remote, but lock normally from the switches or auto lock feature when driving. Is this what you are saying occurs?

Sadly, none anymore
I can bring my tool for pressing in rear axle bushings. The removal of the bushings is the easy part; you just light em up with a torch and cut the casing to allow them to slide right out.

As for the lock issue.. I had the same issue (I think). Where the fob won't lock the drivers door. I found that if I unlocked all the doors then re locked, that the driver door would lock. Later, I removed the door card, while replacing the side mirror, and the issue resolved upon reassembly of the door.

I will have with me a variety of tools, including vcds and specialty bits and such for anyone needing them. I would like to get my tune tweaked if Jeff will be there. Also I believe I will have a friend joining me with an r32 (if that is acceptable). He is looking to get a tune, as well.

Can't wait to see everyone there!

Dan, I have to manually lock the driver's side door. The remote will not "cause" to lock to go down. It appears that the alarm is set because if the door is opened it goes off..........the mystery is that occasionally the remote works it just fine. The inside manual locking mechanism on the door panel works just fine.

Hey Andy, I have this problem on both of my back doors and it just started on my drivers door. I've had this bookmarked to check out in the spring.

the PIG is in the POKE

The pig is ordered and will be ready for lunch. I will be the responsible party for that endeavor.

Last year we had a local volunteer to arrange for the fixins to be picked up locally. It would be good if we could get a local volunteer again this year to handle this task.

Volunteers take one step forward.

After a two year break from TDI's I've JUST bought a 2006 Beetle. Haven't picked it up yet should be here in another week or so. Should be able to make the GTG and would apreaciate a few more eyes checking it out. Has about 36k miles on it, I have no service history. I'd like to replace the air, cabin and fuel filter. I hope to get the oil and filter changed prior to. I also want to flush the brakes if time permits. I'll do the coolant and replace the thermostat on my own. I also have a jug with hoses for diesel purges, and would like to do mine assuming I can find two cans or the stuff. Anyone know someone who sells it in SC?

I have a laptop and a hex+can cable, a motive brake bleeder, and a travel set of tools. I can bring a diesel compression tester, vac gage, and rear brake caliper tool if needed.

I also have a bently's manual for the beetles from 1998 to 2002 that i'd be willing to give/sell/trade to someone who needs it, I just bought the newer version to cover the BEW. Also have a set of timing belt tools for whatever was prior to the ALH engines. Keeping the ALH tools since I have 3 friends close by.

Looking forward to meeting you guys, and helping out where I can.

Chuck, near Aiken SC

After 12 years of tdi ownership, I think I'll try to make this one. Shouldn't be much more than a 90 minute drive from Charlotte. Too bad I can only drive one at a time. It would be nice to get them both changed to open windows with the remote.

I have a good purge rig with a 2 micron fuel filter on it. I would suggest using that. You can buy diesel purge at NAPA, though many of the store operators do not know that they can get it. It usually takes a day after you ask for it, though my local store started carrying it - though I am not sure they restocked their shelves after I bought them out last time.

NAPA part number is LM2005. Take that number with you or they are liable to tell you they can't get it.

Thanks for the info, local NAPA had diesel purge on the shelf and a "german imports" end cap with all the LM stuff, oils and coolant. Great local find since I'm 25 miles to a dealer.

Dan I read your post about upgrading fuel filters with the 3 micron CAT filter, Is installing this kit:

http://www.lubricationspecialist.com/volkswagen-tdi/cat-2-micron-filter-system/

within the norms of a GTG? Also need directions or an address for the GPS.

2 Micron Caterpillar Filter (not 3). Yes, it is what I used, as posted in the thread. I did not need some of the mounting pieces.

Look for the address and directions, contact information on a separate tab of the Google Docs Spreadsheet in post #1.

Good evening gents (and ladies). I have clearance to make my first GTG and look forward to some good info and conversation. Tried to make the Asheville GTG in the fall since I live very close but other prior engagements got in the way...

Glad to hear it. I have the Micro Can and it is come in very handy as I have been able to mod all my VW's as I started back into the VW scene just a few years ago...

Jason and I may try to come down for this, depending on work schedules. Just about an 8 hour drive for us... it'll be our first time for this GTG. :)

You will be glad you came. There is usually a lot going on at Dan's GTG's and possibly 40-50 cars.

We do. Bring your own filter, o-ring, and transmission fluid. We will have the tools.
Dan, sir?

Is there not a 'vendor' that is bringing discounted OEM stuff to the GTG that we can order?
I need a few A3/B4 fuel filters, and perhaps a T/B kit for b4....
plus an old 1.6 TD (ECOdiesel) t/b kit.

I think Aaron(BleachedBora) has in the past?

Vendor attending, please PM me about the parts above.
Thanks..
