Two tuners will be present. RocketChip and Unitronic tuning will be there.

8 am to 7pm. We must leave by 7 pm.

Google Document spread sheet for details and information, including attendees list. Please click on the link and add yourself and any tasks you have to do.

We will be having my summer GTG at MIDLANDS BIOFUELS in Winnsboro, SC, instead of at my house. They volunteered, and I could use the help.
For each TWO gallons of waste vegetable oil you bring in, they will give a gallon of biodiesel - for this GTG only.

I expect it will be similar to the past ones, food, fellowship, tuning and light wrenching. There will be one short lift (it used to be a tire changing shop.)

Quite a few very good TDI mechanics will be there. Paramedick, Jimbote, Dieselfueler, DidJettarun and perhaps Turbinewhine and Daniel. This is a good time to get your car checked out and perhaps some minor repairs or modifications made.

What qualifies as light wrenching? Not timing belt jobs, cam replacements... but many other things, diagnostics, timing adjustment, injector or nozzle replacement, fan check out and potentially repair. skid plate installation.

More to follow soon.

Cue Engineerorange for BBQ in 5..4..3..2..1..
Dan does this mean that Ms Debbie has decided the shop doesn't need a summer cleaning? Super news especially in light of no longer having the Asheville Meet.

The other help i need is locating an oil leak (turbo area) on the rear of the engine..
oil is running down the back of the block,
and the turbo itself is covered in oily residue
maybe the oil seal let go?

After that, i'm free to help anyone

especially a 1z passat or Jetta.
or anyone running VCDS on that configuration..

Nice Dan; I am going to try to make it, and FYI, Zack (who helped me with the TB change) bought a 2010 Jetta TDI 6M and should be there.

Valvecrusher,
I have no idea what is involved in a TB for a 92 IDI, but I doubt if it fits under the heading of "minor wrenching."
I have a dial indicator, but not a specific adapter for your IP.

A GTG only four hours away? Same (or less) distance from Raleigh as Asheville? Possible BBQ? Count me and my wife in!

Engineerorange, while I certainly empathize with the woes of wrasslin' a roasting pig in the summer (helped out a few pig pickin's), there's at least another 6-pack of whatever you'd like in it for you if you do. :D

Question, would help installing a Panzer Plate count as light wrenching? A short lift sounds nice for the job, and while I know my way around basic maintenance I've never installed something like it.

I'll put it on the calendar but not sure what is already planned. We just bought our new house about 30 minutes from Richmond so the funds are limited also. Tell Debbie we said hello.

Does an injector install count as light wrenching? It is on my to-do list, but I didn't plan on it happening before the summer ends.....but if rocket chips is gonna be there.....I would want my new injectors installed before I went to bend there ears and open my wallet

Yes, Injector install counts as light wrenching. This one is not being done at my shop, so my tools will be limited. I will just bring one carload. Please bring new copper sealing washers. If you have a DC powered drill, please bring that as well. If you don't have one, PM me or call me (number is in the google spreadsheet, or soon will be) the day before, and remind me to bring mine.

will be there to assist....and learn more....maybe a skid plate......Dan was very helpful to me yesterday...but I always get concerned (300 miles from home)...when I hear "I have never seen this before".....but the CSI guy of the TDI world was not worried (or he hid it well).....an excellent example of what a GURU is in my humble opinion...I have a VCDS and Dan knows how to use it!!!!!!

To ANYONE who can assist:
Anyone have the dial indicator that screws into the back of the IP on the IDI's, such as my '92 1.6 td ECOdiesel?

also valvecrusher the oil leak is probably the oil return going to the pan. If you let it idle for long periods of time the turbo will start leaking from the return. Its called turbo slobber

Cool, cool, cool!
Thank you DC22.

Do you know what size fitting, how to tighten, where it is, how to do it?

The ECO 1.6td, sure is slobbering ALOT, i mean A whole huge lot.
It might be the head gasket, or a warped head...thus leaking there instead...but that's why i need help, determining what's going on there..

Are you still at the coast?
pm sent!

What are the hours for this shindig? I'm trying to make this (and my first GTG!!), but I need to know approximate times. Is this family friendly?

TIA

Spouses have come to every one, kids to ever GTG.

There may be some alcohol consumed (it would have to be low key from cups and glasses on Main street in Winnsboro due to local laws - no visible open containers), but there have never been any untoward behavior at any of the GTG's.

A plumbing word escapes every now and then, when someone busts a nuckle.

I suspect the hours will be 8 am to 7 pm.

8am - 7pm? Wow, that's a long day! I imagine I won't be able to show up quite that early, it's still a 4hr drive, but noon-time sounds plenty feasible.
