Bring it on!

Currently have an '04, Canada only, Jetta TDI Sport Edition and bought it for the seats, wheels, steering wheel etc. upgrades from a stock Jetta. Currently has over 300K km's and plan on keeping it until VW decides to bring on the GTD. The similar upgrades in that car are even better!! So VW, if you want to tempt me into the showroom for an upgrade the only way to do it is to bring the GTD over to Canada.

That looks like a shameless attempt to SEO for something, devoid of actual content.

And the photos are mostly of the current Mk6 Golf, with one of a SCIROCCO.

RIP 16 GSW... Just the LR diesel now
From earlier articles on the TN plant, VW bought enough land to set up an indenticle sized second plant. They were probably not planning on having to break ground on it this early though.

4motion may only be available with a manual in Europe but it will probably not be availiable with the TDI at all in the US and Canada.
TN is going to build higher value vehicles. Next on the TN roster is going to be the Explorer/Pilot type SUV

So Touregs, which I don't want or need. A TDI Tiguan sized would be nice but I have a feeling that will give way to the Passat all-road type.

Not Touaregs, think a taller NMS Passat but a wagon with a third row, and more SUV-like styling.

Still transverse, and much cheaper than a Touareg.

In my younger years, I might have considered it but with teenaged drivers, I don't want that extra power. I might chnage my mind in a few more years when I get them off my insurance though. Other than the boost in hp and tourque, what are the other differences between the Golf TDI and the GTD?

Yeah, I want a 1.6 105 hp TDI like in Europe instead. With 100 km/h speed limits, increasingly enforced where I am (photo radar), and approaching old-fartdom, even the 140 hp in my 2.0 Golf is overkill. Please please pretty please give us a "Blue Motion" model over here, 1.6, 105 hp, auto start-stop, all the hybrid-killing low fuel consumption goodies. Manual too please.

IMPORTANT UPDATE!

Hi Guys, I have some bad news, and some good news. First the bad news (an email reply from Volkswagen of Canada) and the Good news (an email reply from Autoblog.ca) Here they are:

=================
Volksagen of Canada:
=================
Dear Daniel,

Thank you for contacting Volkswagen Canada Customer Relations and bringing your inquiry regarding the Golf GTD to our attention. Your satisfaction is of the utmost importance to us and we appreciate your time in allowing us to assist with this matter.

We were pleased to learn of your enthusiasm for our products and our brand; we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your passion and loyalty to our brand. As you mention our TDI technology is a really attractive alternative to many consumers and an asset to our brand.
Generally, North Americans tend to prefer a more powerful engine as compared to our European counterparts. The availability of the Golf TDI helps to encompass this preference.

At this time, Volkswagen of Canada does not have any plans to introduce the Golf GTD into the North American market. We appreciate the information you have provided to us and this was shared with our product-planning department. We would like to confirm to you that Volkswagen does not take your comment lightly and we hope we will soon meet your request for a larger array of diesel-powered vehicles in Canada..

I appreciate your providing me with the opportunity to respond to your inquiry and hope you find this information useful. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me through our Customer Relations Center at (800) 822-8987. If I am not available, one of my associates will be able to assist you or please visit us on the web at www.vw.ca.

Please be advised that you may receive a short survey by e-mail regarding your customer service experience with Customer Relations.

Sincerely,

Leighton

Subject: Can petitioning really influence volkswagen?

Hi Autoblog,

I was wondering if you'd be able to help us gain exposure to the following. We
at tdiclub.com are trying to bring to volkswagen's attention that we in canada,
want higher performing diesel engines, want a voice separate from VWoA, and have
started an online petition and website to do so. Our main focus is to have
Volkswagen bring over 500 GTD Golfs from Europe, similar to their Golf R batch.
By gaining as many petitions as possible, we'd like to see how influential the
public voice is, especially when it comes to enthusiast like us at tdiclub.com.
Feel free to contact me for futher information or visit our forums at
www.tdiclub.com. we're hoping that with autoblog's and the media's help, we can
spread awareness to achieve our goal.

thank you from all of us.

================================

So Here's the summary, Volkswagen of Canada says there's no market. Autoblog.com wants us to write an article to prove them wrong. I'd like to know if there are any dedicated bloggers or writers on this site who would do justice to the GTD and write up an article for Autoblog and get even more names on that petition.

We're all tired of waiting for Volkswagen to make a move. Maybe all they need is a little push!

If you're interested in writing the article, please post to this thread and PM me directly. I'm now in contact with Autoblog.com and will pass your information on and article to them.

I have signed your petition and sent an email to VW.ca

If we keep letting them know which product will bring us (people with wallets) into their showroom they will not refuse.

The Passat uses an updated EA189 engine (same family as the Golf/Jetta/New Beetle/A3, and it's a mild change compared to the EA188 (which we know better as the ALH, BEW, and BHW), not the EA288 engine.

All Mk7 Golf diesels will be EA288.

Ok. The above link has an MQB Golf, with an EA288? And if so, when in the US?

I'm biased to liking the MKVI since I have one that's a year old but that car looks nice!

I want to say model year 2014 for the MQB cars to start coming here.
With the EA288? For just Golf? I want the AWD Tiguan while you're at it. I hope they don't make a car we all want to buy, that would be crazy.

From what I've read, the MQB (MKVII) platform will only have the new engines. They were designed together.

I'm curious as to what kind of HPFP the EA288 uses.
The 2012 Passat is sort of the transition to the EA288. It has a lower pressure pump and other mods that have apparently fixed the blowed up. It also fixed the intercooler.

The engine generation has nothing whatsoever to do with the pump - EA189 engines have had, IIRC, a mix of Continental (1.2), Delphi (1.6), and Bosch (2.0) pumps.

The EA288 2.0 will most likely still have a Bosch CP4.

Also, the EA288 has a much better integrated A2W intercooler setup - the intake manifold *IS* the intercooler. (You can do that when you're planning on making it A2W, but with the Passat, it was a quick bandaid fix that they could shove in the engine bay on an EA189 engine. It's very poorly integrated.)

The above plus the Passats aren't experiencing HPFP failures so they fixed something, either the pump or the whole system it's pumping. One hopes the EA288 won't be failing either
