It's gonna cost the dear sweet $$$'s just like it does in Europe.
Or maybe they will figure out how to make it cheaper here, probably not be a good thing.
I'll buy one though and I predicted this a while back in another post as VW's U.S. parts database has already been loaded with the GTD's parts for a while now. It's no suprise that VW did this as there are some other higher HP diesels about to hit the market by other manufacturers. Maybe this opens a door for more higher power options in the other VW models here in the U.S.

It shouldn't be it's first year by the time it lands here, it'll have already been in Europe for quite some time by then.
Also there will be at least a Mazda Skyactiv-D out by then here so let's see how it goes. There may be a few sweet alternatives by then.
**edited**
Just really hope that it keeps the same horsepower and specs as the EU model. Won't be buying first year production.
Looks like I'll be waiting till 2016...wow.

Thanks, rspring. No one is questioning your honesty. But links to your source are always a good idea. So, the waiting begins~! Like we're really going to see this car here in North America.... As others have said, I'll believe it when I see it at the dealership!

I am sure there will be emissions changes for the US market, and nobody can know how it will run on junk US fuel, so for all intensive purposes, it will be "first year" no matter when/if it makes it here.

True, we do have the junk fuel now don't we.

wutgas--- intents and purposes not intensive purposes;). but you are correct about the emissions system and the variable fuel quality

No need to regret your purchases folks. A 2015 car is a bit of a wait, sure, but it gives us a solid 18 months to experience the value of what we already have. I'm mostly looking forward to the improved handling, braking, fuel efficiency of a significantly lighter vehicle. That's something to rave about.
+1. It'll also give me more time to save up money, pay down my current loan more since I am expecting the GTD to be between a Golf R and a GTI autobahn trim price point.

THE GTD IS COMING TO THE STATES!

I'm saving up for one right now. It will be worth the wait. Let the Euros iron out the bugs for us.

I'd definitely consider either Golf or Sirocco flavor TDI.It may be better
with the V6 version of the TDI that's in the Tigaun. But I don't see that happening.

The Jetta Tdi Cup edition didn't exactly rush off dealer lots.
I've never understood the desire for "tarting up" a good design and pushing it as a top shelf product. I would rather see the Sriocco than the Golf dressed as a GTD. Or the R-line with extra body cladding.

That's because all the Cup edition was was a Jetta a ground effects kit and a little suspension tuning. Same engine with a forced DSG option. Not really impressive, performance-wise.

A GDT would be in the running with R-type vehicles. And maybe even making a good option for guys looking at a WRX or Evo, and are willing to sacrifice AWD for a better sticker price and much better fuel economy.

I went from a GTI to an WRX STI... and I think it would be a stretch to say someone considering a WRX or Evo would consider a GTD. If you're shopping econobox performance, you don't care much for fuel economy, you just want a cheap tunable thrill.

OTOH, I do think TDI or GTI drivers with long commutes and a healthy love of carving up winding roads might love the GTD. I know if the car was here today, I'd strongly be considering it now that I'm dealing with a massive highway commute.

This is what I would like one for: fun and economy!! My TDI doesn't handle near as good as my wife's 11. Amazing what 10 years will do! I really like the look of the GTD. It's has a much better look.:)

That would be my dream car as well, I would take it even with the 147hp engine :)

How many other diesel cars have "officially" been coming to North America and then didn't show up?

Ford Focus, Mazda 3, Honda Accord, Subaru Imprezza, etc, etc...

At least with VW it is plausible, so there's that.
Ibiwisi (I'll believe it when I see it).

The big question is not if or when the gtd will be sold. The big question should be how reliable will the hpfp be? Has it been designed to work with us grade diesel?

Why would the hpfp on the gtd be any different than the standard tdi?

The current tdi hpfp has had three revisions since initial production. So one could assume the gtd could need revisions as well or already come ready for us grade fuel.

Has anyone confirmed if the new EA288 engine even uses the same HPFP? There are so many other changes to the engine that perhaps that is changed as well.
