I couldn't agree more. The squarer shape looks great.

I don't see much difference, which is a good thing. I don't like the style some of the other car makers are going too. Leave it simple and put the changes under the skin. Would be nice if this new design started using urea. I might consider a new one then.

Got this in my email from VW Owner's Club... Take it for what it's worth

http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/...-is-a-diesel-hot-hatch-headed-to-america.html

Last Update in the article states... "***UPDATE*** GTD fans will have to be patient as we’ve just learned the car isn’t scheduled to arrive until model-year 2015, which means it’s likely to go on sale some time next year ***UPDATE***"

Interesting that they are already pushing the release back from what they originally stated.

I still don't think we will ever see it in NA but I'll keep my hopes up.

No need to regret your purchases folks. A 2015 car is a bit of a wait, sure, but it gives us a solid 18 months to experience the value of what we already have. I'm mostly looking forward to the improved handling, braking, fuel efficiency of a significantly lighter vehicle. That's something to rave about.

Just really hope that it keeps the same horsepower and specs as the EU model. Won't be buying first year production.

Looks like I'll be waiting till 2016...wow.

I read in the local (French) paper that the 2.5 is dying, finally, to be replaced by a 1.8T. The article said TWO-HUNDRED-AND-FIFTY horsepower!!!
What are they smoking? The MkVII GTI has 220hp, 230hp with the "performance pack" which also includes a mechanical LSD.
American-market GTIs have traditionally always had a bit less power than the Euro versions.

The 1.8TSI as seen in the Audi A3/A4/A5, Škoda Octavia and some other models is a very complicated engine (direct AND port injection, complex Valvelift system) and makes 170-180hp depending on application.

The 250hp number... Volkswagen had a concept NMS with a 1.8T tuned to 250hp. That's where the number probably comes from.

It would be nice if everyone started to agree on the engine specs. I've seen from 170 - 185 hp but don't remember the torque numbers. It'd be a fun toy but don't see it ending up in my garage.

Torque will certainly not exceed 350Nm (258 lb.ft.) if the MQ350 (manual) or DQ350 (DSG) transmissions are used. In the absence of any specs and ETA from VW, any discussion of power are still pure speculation, but it will likely be 170 HP.

Vapourware until at the showrooms.

170PS is for the old MkVI GTD. 184PS (181.5 hp) is for the MkVII GTD just introduced in Europe. Torque is 380 Nm = 280 lb-ft.

Being new to the TDI experience and reading up on this forum for the past month or so, it seems like very few people, if anyone, legitimately expected this to happen so soon.

If that is the case, is it possible that there will be more TDIs brought stateside (Fox, Polo, CC) and this is the beginning? Or is this just an isolated one-off?
I doubt they will proof other TDI engines. What's more likely to happen (100% speculation) is we would see the A3, A4, and Passat receive the EA288 engine and replace the current TDI options we have in these car's sold in the US. This would make the move economic and more in-line with the cars sold in Europe.

It would make sense to bring it - Audi is bringing the 3.0 TDI to the A8, A6, and Q5 in 2014. Wish they would bring the Quattro A3 TDI instead of FWD...

That would be great - we don't get Quattro TDI in the US at all, that is why I am building my own...

Awesome! Who still offers a sabbatical? Intel???
Lots of companies. But they call them 'layoffs' now.

I had a year and a half 'sabbatical'. Took a buyout right ahead of the collapse of the economy (great timing), and was on sabbatical a little longer than I wanted to be.... :)

I saw one in Spain last year and had to have it... But couldn't at any price.
When my daughter takes over the '13 Golf in a couple of years I would love to trade off my Mustang GT for a GTI, but it would happen faster if a GTD were available.
