Did I mention that they normally sale for $390.00 US Dollars! Seems like a pretty damn good deal. Maybe Jannetty Racing will step up and match this???? Awe common Ted its worth a shot!

Sounds tempting.... If it is anything like the VanAkken box Jannetty was selling, I might just bite. Keep me posted and list me as "tentative"

Hey psaboic - if your going to be at the St. Louis GTG (July 20) I will should be out there as well, I just got my VASB so if you have not been in a TDI with one of these I will give you a ride and you can decide for yourself if you really do want one. A word of caution would be that after the ride you will want one

Not really interested as I already have the VanAaken 'SmartBox' but... The website and info on this box is spartan at best. I would make sure it is the VanAaken version and insist on more info before assuming they are one in the same Maybe you have already confirmed this verbally or otherwise but...

For buyers here, I wouldn't buy it at this price if it isn't....

I don't know if these are the "VanAaken 'SmartBox'". I will try giving him a call tomorrow to ask him. What I do know is he said that they were manufactured in England. Like I had said before if you have any questions on it give him a call yourself. Just call and hold for the receptionist, then ask for info on the TDI Smart Box. ITS A TOLL FREE PHONE CALL!

Good point...

As the 'real world' dynos demonstrated, the actual gains are around 20 HP and 45 TQ with the Jannetty version SmartBox, despite the advertised claims. I, for one, am very happy with the power and delivery. No change in mileage, believe it or not. Smoke is up a small amount, but only when driving aggressively
.

The std. van Aaken box is advertised at up to 29 BHP (flywheel) and 36 FTLBS torque. Diesel Service is blatently claiming 'aproximatly' (gees guys, at least spell it right) 40 HP and 50 FTLBS torque. I seriously doubt it. As Gary says, he has NEVER seen any more than 20 HP out of ANY tuning box. Upsolute offers a 3-pot box @ $250. I don't know the claimed gains but... For $340 even, this box had better perform on par with the van Aaken for it to be a good value.

Don't get me wrong. I am NOT trying to discourage anyone from buying this box. I would just insist on some kind of 'honest' numbers that match actual real world examples of what these boxes can do. The true van Aaken is reported to deliver power smoother and offer excellent 'driveability' compared to the cheapies. I would make sure you're getting those benefits as well.

Hmm, the website claims that this box plugs into the CANBUS of the pump. They must drive a TDI that is different than what the rest of us is driving: there is *no* CANBUS going to the pump on our NA A4 or NB TDIs.

Ok here is the scoop I spoke with Trent today and he says that they are infact the van Aaken box. I also addressed that the website seems to have pumped up the numbers. He was going to check into it, and said that he would try to post a message here with the info. The numbers he originally quoted me over the phone was 25HP and 40TQ. Still seems like a pretty good deal, you guys tell me.

I would be interested, but I have a question....the box is supposed to add 25hp, is that from a stock set-up? Cause if the car is chipped, will it add an extra 25hp on top of what the chip says???

Ok, If it is the VanAken box, I am interested as well. The only other thing I am remotely concerned about is warranty with the box, and where it actually plugs in. Never heard of the CANBUS connector.

Anxiously awaiting word from Trent before I totally commit, but it's definitely lookin' better!

The van Aaken box is a snap to install. It just plugs into the 8 or 10 pin connector to the injector pump. You must remove your engine heat/noise shroud to expose the connector. Instructions are supplied w/the box. On mine, it is on the front of the engine, down behind the oil filter. Older (A3/B4) cars use the 8 pin, newer (A4) use the 10 pin. Make sure you are specific when ordering. Depress the tab on the side of the connector and wiggle it free and off. Plug in the two connectors on the box to the male and female engine connectors, spool the wire, zip-strip it to other rigging to keep it from interfering w/anything and velcro the box in the place of your choice. Everything comes w/the box. That's just about it. Piece of cake.

If these are identical to the specs of the box Ted Jannetty is selling, I'm in for one for sure!!! Can anyone email Van Aaken to see if the specs are the same??? This is a very good price and if indeed the same box, well it's a steal and I do want in on the buy!!
I'm at work now and can't spend much time on the net....If anyone finds out, please email me and let me know...Do these guys take paypal or credit cards for payment??

Well Guys,
I talked to Trent briefly today and he told me that the box they sell produced 29hp and 45lbs of torque according to the dyno test Van Aaken performed....Sounds like the same programming that Jannetty has to me...Trent is going to call Van Aaken and ask the question for us....I will talk to him tomorrow and will ask about any duty and shipping info...They do accept credit cards according to the web site....Guys listen up!!!!! This is a steal of a deal if it is indeed the same programming on the box...Either that or Ted Jannetty has made alot more than we have been lead to believe on the group buy a month ago...I missed out on that one, hell I didn't even know this site exsisted!!!!! But I do NOW!!!

So let's see what info I get from Trent tomorrow, and I also emailed Van Aaken myself and asked the question about the programming being the same??
If it's the same,,,,,,HOW MANY ARE GONNA JUMP ON THIS DEAL???????
I know this coonass is for sure!!! Later guys and ciao for now!!

At this point I think we just need to proceed I think we have the 5 easily covered. Contact Trent at Diesel Services to make your arrangements, and be sure to mention that you are part of the group buy. I will be calling him tomorrow to let him know that we are a go. I'm sure that he will hold all shipments until the 5 are confirmed.

Best Regards!
