Got DPF replaced and light came back on!

Does this make sense? The mechanic told me that the intake manifold may need to be replaced. My car is running a better, although it wasn't running bad before. I saw my DPF and it was loaded with soot. I'm having someone else look at it. He told me that it could just be a gasket and not the entire manifold. Issue is that the DPF mechanic told me that the NOX sensor code came up too. Can I trust this guy? I had brought it to the dealer and one other mechanic who both mentioned the manifold and the NOX. But I don't trust dealers anyway. I got a decent deal on DPF replacement--$1,700 and it only took a few hours. The guy seems trustworthy but when it comes to these issues I can't help but be suspect. Thanks.

the intake manifold usually causes a p2015 intake manifold flap code . when code is present most of these cars wont regen . as for the nox code it wont regen untill all the codes are cleared out . and a lot of times it has to be performed during a highway run with a bi directional scan tool. that being said Dieselgeek ,makes a repair bracket that in most cases fixes the intake issue. its like 70.00.

Thanks! I meant bracket. I actually read about that and suggested it to the DPF mechanic and he said he doesn't use it. I read about it on Dieselgeek. The other guy that I am taking it too mentioned this so if it's that, it would save me a lot of money. Thanks for your response! I have a 2014 Jetta Sportwagen TDI.

What specific codes have appeared again? After replacing the filter, you need to perform some procedures using diagnostic equipment.

I'll get the codes. The mechanic knows what to do. He regularly replaces these.

Is it typical for a mechanic NOT to give you a printout of the scan with codes? I’ve asked a couple of the mechanics for this and they don’t respond. They just write the work that needs to be done which is why I don’t trust them. I’m wondering if they give them to guys? Thanks.

These cars dont have a NOx sensor but a NOx cat. Most likely throwing a regen needed fault as a regen hasnt happened in a while due to the CEL being on.

Intake manifold fault is typical on these and alot of people have used the bracket from dieselgeek and had good luck with it for awhile. Its a cheaper fix for sure and if you're worried about spending money then I would give that a try as well. Very easy to install and there is alot of video/guides online for it.

Little odd that they dont give you a write up of the codes.

I've asked them twice, and left a VM. They gave me a list of issues but nothing to back it up. Even said that the cat converter may need to be replaced. I think they are just looking for more work! I'm bringing it to a local guy I've used before who also mentioned that inexpensive fix. I spent $1700 the least they can do is respond.

I've rarely seen a NOx cat replaced. If it is the regen fault, then once you get all the other work done, you can clear it by resetting the values and the fault will clear. After that, your regens should start back up and you should be fine. I would for sure bring in someone else to look at it cause it seems they are fishing for work.

You are so helpful! And they weren't happy about the easy fix on the intake manifold either. They also told me that both aux fans need to be replaced. In speaking with my other mechanic he said that rarely do they both go at once. This is the issue here in MA. It is very difficult to find an honest mechanic when it comes to diesel issues and very few even deal with them. Because I am a woman, well that doesn't help. They didn't do anything with the EGR. Is this necessary? Many thanks.

Of course not, they wanted to sell you the whole thing so they can make the money off you. Again, I doubt both the fans went and usually if the large rad fan goes, it throws a fault for Cooling Fan 1 control module or something of the sort. Thats also easy to test if your mechanic has VCDS or anything to run output tests. You can run a test for the fans to see if they come on.

As for the EGR, when they replace the DPF, they are suppose to replace the Low side EGR pipe that goes from the DPF to the EGR Cooler. Other than that, you wouldnt touch anything for that.

I would guess that any man who goes to them for help, they also consider "a woman".
That's interesting... You are probably right but I just assumed they were better with men. I research everything, have even watched the videos on how to replace a DPF, easy fix for intake, etc., and I told them that!

Codes I finally got from them: P2015 and P2BA6. They will either replace motor (intake) or whole part for $299 plus labor. So they really won't do the cheap fix so I am bringing it to someone else who knows about that. They are clearly trying to make money off me. They want to sell me the NOX cat for $500 plus labor. Forget that. I'll wait and see once intake issue is addressed. I'm no fool.

The P2BA6 code is for NOx Exceedance - SCR NOx Catalyst Performance. Most likely because there is some build up of something in there because of the current faults not allowing for regens. Seen many of these because of other faults, Fixed the other faults, Reset values for NOx cat and performed a regen, no NOx cat fault returned.

Did they do the adaptations for the new DPF at all?...maybe it's something as simple as that.

I already talked about this to the topicstarter, and received the answer " The mechanic knows what to do. He regularly replaces these. "
Hi MrCypherr! I drove 700 miles after cleaning work and there is no light. I still hope to get 25-30 thousand

Yes, I saw that @bashik , but perhaps the keyword Adaptations rings a different bell?

Resetting the DPF values will just reset the ash load. The NOx cat has its own values and can be reset as well. This seems like due to the intake manifold fault, no regen has been performed, thus allowing the NOx values to go above limit and throwing this code. Nothing major, Just need to fix the intake manifold code, perform a regen and if needed, just reset the NOx cat values. DPF values should have been reset but would not throw the following codes the OP has.
