Did you find that problem or that is what the dealership told you? Would that be a possible problem for mine since it has 115 miles on it when I bought it?
Dealer found it, my car had less than 2000 km's on it when that happened.

My car had a few things that were loose or not working from the get go, my guess is either the car was built on a Friday, it was a newbie or somebody had 1 too many Coronas before their shift. I'm not certain but maybe the same guy built yours. :)

My guess, the dealer probably filled the car with unleaded gasoline. Stay on top of this. Go to the dealer asap & inspect it yourself. I would definitely open the fuel cap & give the filler hole a sniff.
Oh gosh, that would suck. I find it amazing that anyone could ignore the black sticker on the dash that says, "Ultra Low Sulfer Diesel" and the fuel cap that says, "Diesel".

None any more. My heart couldn't take it.

Unfortunately, if this is what happened, it wouldn't be the first time. By a long shot.

Some cars have bad karma. Let me cite you my personal example. I purchased brand new a 1984 Chrylser Laser turbo. I get home from the dealership 3 miles from my house. Stop the car, get out of it and "ping" muffler clamp breaks in half. That was the start of my relationship with the "money pit". That car had a $200 event every month the last year I owned it way back in 1988. crazy. I would be very firm with the dealer and give them zero wiggle room. There is no room for compassion here folks from my point of view.

bad start of a relationship

I'm thinking like leicaman-this isn't a good start-and not a good sign. Does the dealership have another car to give you to replace yours? I can't see how they could blame you wanting to walk away from a car with a issues- no matter what they are. You spent a heck of alot of money to have to go through this!!

from everything i read on this site, it is highly unlikely that they filled it with gasoline because if they did the car would not have run as long as it did, let alone start again and idle. The HPFP would be done
I do agree with this - once that HPFP is gone it is GONE - no second chances.

agreed, you would not get 2 blocks if that happened
Not necessarily - there is a guy in the MkVI Golf forum (did an accidental misfuel) and he got 2 miles and then the car wouldn't start the next morning. It all depends on the concentration of gasoline that hits the HPFP and that determines how much time it takes for it to self destruct.

I could not agree more. Make them find you a new car or it sounds like you will second guess yourself forever. I had a silimiar thing happen with a snowmobile I purchased 5-6 years ago. Went to the dealer to pick it up and at the walk through they could not get it started. Backfired a few times but no start. I wrote the VIN down and demanded another sled which I picked up a few days later. 5000 miles on that sled now with not one issue which is pretty good for sled. Although an awkward situation at the time I've never regretted my decision.

Sorry to hear about the trouble and hopefully your dealer makes things right.

Allegedly the sister dealership put gas in it!! Sorry thinking that that was impossible, you all were right.

I am getting a new car! They did not hesitate at all when I said I wanted a new one. Should be ready today after work. Hopefully!

Glad they took care of you no questions asked.

Now to the miss fueling...it is kinda encouraging that they put gas in and the pump didn't completely self destruct. Could this mean that the revisions to the pump are actually making improvements, but not there yet?

I dont think they can read/speak english here either, i really hope it was the guys that wash the car that made the mistake and not one of the mechanics.

i would hope the dealer learned for that very expensive blunder...LOL
My guess is that the dealer either get VW to pick up the warranty bill, or get their own insurance to cover. Whatever the case, the people that ultimately pay for the repair to that car will likely not be themselves.

J.G.R.: Do the folks on here a favor and post the VIN to that car. That way anyone looking to purchase that car and comes across this website will have the full history of what happened to the fuel system on that car.

Glad to hear the dealer came clean and is getting you an entirely new car. Now just follow the maintenance in the owners manual and do reading here to learn more about your car! I am sure once that other car is properly repaired, it will not be a problem child, but the point is that a brand new car should not puke 5 miles down the pike. I am sure stopping payment on that check truly got their attention.

Sounds like it wasn't much gas but any gas is enough. Glad they are replacing the car!

Yea it cost $34 to stop the check, way worth it.

The dealer called at 12 and said they found a new car for me, the general manager is going to get it himself. It will have about 300 miles, the first one had 115 when I bought it. He said he normally gives $.50/mile but will give me $100 off the car.

Good?

I really want the wheels that come on the gas model

He should give you a dollar off for every mile over 115 miles that the new car has.

If he truly gave you .50/per mile that is roughly the same as the 100 bucks. Right now he is giving you .54/mile.

Or - if he gave you 100 bucks off and the wheels off the SEL that would be fair enough I think. :)

Ask for the moon at this point. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Let's see...
Upgraded stereo with nav
all weather mats and mudguards
couple of VW travel mugs

I would ask to buy the gassed up tdi for a couple $1000s off instead....fixed of course

Better to get the depreciation for FREE :D

(PS a gas station put diesel in their 87 unleaded tanks shortly after my father bought a 1990 buick lesabre new. I think he had 4000 miles on it. The station paid for everything to be repaired by buick....we finally junked it in 2005 at 223k miles.....its not life ending ;))

I would say....

CPO this for 100k miles bumper-bumper.
Fix the fuel problems
Knock $2000 off or whatever

i would buy it....who wouldnt. If you can get that, in 100k miles you will know if its junk or not.
