My car just came in after 3 long months waiting for it and I am thrilled although I picked it up at night during a blizzard. 4 door, blue graphite pearl with DSG and ESP. The dealer threw in the monster mats but didn’t have the trunk mat in yet.
I have a clear bra on order and new low beam lights to go in when it’s warmer out. I still think it needs more personalizing though.
I was thinking about putting a very thin red pinstripe along the top of the aluminum trim on the dash and doors, just for a little contrast. And I really like the alloy inserts for the seat height adjusters on eBay.
Just wondering what people’s opinions are, if anybody else has ideas on how to subtly and tastefully personalize our beautiful cars.

Do the 3M paint protection on front end metal painted vertical surfaces asap (instead of the clear bra which will not cover roof lip pillars and hood all the way to the fenders). 500 bucks max and you will thank to yourself and you can barely spot it until close.

Not exactly personalizing the car, but very useful add-on if you ask me.

It's surprising good on the crappy roads ... at least with a decent set of winter skins. I love this car more every day. Congrats. Post some pics when you get some of your upgrades done.

Oh, so it is not a bra you ordered, it is actual trim kit. I personally prefer to go to 3M trim shop, because they don't use pre-cut templates like dealers do, but they actually cut it based on your vehicle. I'd recommend doing the pillars as well. You never know, all it takes is one rock penetrating the paint ....

If I posted images, you wouldn't see much, that's how invisible it is on my gray universal color .... :D

+1 for the 3m.. had it on mine since less than 100 miles of use :) (had it since 40 miles on my former R32 and it lasted great 5+ years too!)

What's the best way to locate a local 3M trim shop? Is there a web site that lists them?

Scotchgard Paint Protection Plus--Opinions?

rabinabo said:
OK, as it turns out, the dealer I'm buying the car from is an authorized installer of the Paint Protection Plus film. So I have the option of having it installed before the car even touches the street!

Could anyone who has this product please share your opinions of it. Has it prevented the paint chips from kicked up stones, as advertised? Does it yellow? Does it peel? Does it tolerate washing and waxing the car without itself becoming scuffed? Is it worth $300? The warranty is for 5 years; would you expect it to last longer than that?

Oh, and pull badges. Which is easily done with dental floss, a hair drier, and, Bug & Tar remover.
I'm thinking about taking off the Golf but keeping the TDI. I like the TDI.

Are there only 2 screws for the rear license plate? If so, what did you do to mount the lower screw covers? I figured I could use short bolts with nuts, but it might scratch the paint.

Mounted with four screws. That is the way that the dealer mounted the original plate and frame. There are no starters or dimples in the plastic...

I pulled the TDI because if it's running you know is diesel, and if it's not the headlights are a give away. Plus I like the clean look, but to each his/her own.

Your car looks great. I just like the TDI for me.

I think the way VW mounts the plate, or doesn't provide for mounting the plate, is not that great. My Mercedes has integrated threads for mounting the plate with machine bolts. The plate is very well secured on the Benz. It seems weird to have to drill some holes in the new car and use sheet metal screws. Oh well, I guess that is why the VW costs $25K instead of $50K. I guess 4 screws will work for me.

Is the stock widow tint dark enough? I'm not looking to go gangsta just protect the interior and provide some security from prying eyes.

Edit: Wife has "RockBlocker" clear bra on her '06 white MDX. It is starting to yellow now, but not one stone chip or scratch.

There is no stock tint on my car, nor was it an option. I'm looking into tint and 3M clear for leading surfaces of my Golf.

XPD Opti-lube shold be on the doorstep today :D.

Added exhaust tips and a stainless plate frame. like them both!
Did you get the exhaust tips from the dealer, or a different source?

VW does NOT recommend the use of ANY fuel additive on the 09-2010 TDI. Furthermore, any use of the additive will void the warranty on the fuel system if VW can track the failure to the additive. Use at your own risk.

The exhaust tips are from the dealer.

You might want to read up on ULSD in the US. And what is to say in not putting in my tractor?

Man oh man...I read the manual and it says that the use of parts that are not sold or recommended by VW will void your warranty coverage on that part. Check page 3 of the warranty booklet under "what is not covered."

I called VW and verified what is in the manual. I was told point blank that VW does NOT recommend the use of fuel additives on the 09-10 TDI. Then I called TWO different Service Advisors form the dealership where I bougth my TDI and BOTH confirmed what VW customer service told me, ie, VW does NOT recommend the use of fuel additives on the 09-10 TDI.

The SA also told me that if I get a fuel system problem and VW can trace it to the additive then they will VOID the warranty coverage on the fuel system.

I know that the ULSD has low levels of lubricity, but VW is TELLING you not to use additives and that the car is designed to run on ULSD. There is a little sticker on the dash that say so.

Go ahead and use what you want, but if you get a fuel system problem and VW voids your warranty, then it is your fault.
