Golf 1.6TDI clinking and clanking on acceleration

I bought this Golf 3 months ago - it's 2011 1.6TDI

On startup it seems like it's missing but eventually clears up. Power is perfect but clinks and clanks when it's under load.
I've taken the injectors to a professional tester - whilst the injectors were ok, I was advised to swap out one injector (cost £520 for a new injector).
So far I've spent $1200 on changing the injector rail & new injector. It's made no difference. The garage had a VDCS but were unable to carryout Minimum Deviation setting.

I've had the fuel filter changed - there were no metal fillings (to eliminated a failing high pressure fuel pump)

I'm so frustrated, I bought a VDC for £500 to check myself.

On VCDS Auto Scan - I noticed 19 CAN GATEWAY status Malfunction 0010 error.

My question is that - "Would the CAN Gateway malfunction stop VCDS running Minimum Deviation calibrations"

Clink clank? Not your engine/transmission mounts? How is power perfect but an injector was worth changing?

Definitely not the mount - it's like timing is off (PINKING like in the old days you'd move the distributor to correct it).
I didn't even need a new injector - it was exactly the same after replacing it.
There is no power issues - picks up nicely.

Mine does that too, not really bad and mainly when doing a regen and usually in 5th when revs are pretty low. Engine is fine though. Are you flooring it in 4th or 5th? The 5 spd gearbox is weird, gears are crazy tall.

Why £500 for vcds? Did you buy the super dooper option? The 3 vin option is only about £200 for our cars.

No idea on the can gateway, never had to deal with it. This is the newest car I've had and my first 1.6cr tdi

Yep I bought the super dooper option with unlimited VINs.

I've had the old PD 1.9TDI diesels in the past - 270,000 miles and the last one running 310,000 miles - those engine PD engines were bullet proof.
I've also got a Galaxy with the same engine PD engine which has 200,000 miles and still drives crisp after 19 years.

This 1.6TDI is a disappointment - diesel knock and pinking, it's driving me mad.

VCDS not showing any error code for engine or camshaft/crankshaft issues.

It must be a mechanical issue with the cam lifters or springs that the VDCS cannot monitor ?

Yes, pure mechanical issues are imposible for the vcds to see.

Knowing what I know now I'd have gone for the 2L but the 1.6 isn't bad, especially with custom mapping, just noisier.

My engine idles uneven, misses when accelerating (pinking and clanking)
I've had a play with VDCS and noticed a big difference in Injection Deviation values.
What does +ve and ive values mean - low compression, camshaft worn out or valve worn ?
