As the title states, has anyone used the GM syncromesh manual transmission fluid in a 6 speed 02M/02Q? I read a long time ago on here people recommending the syncromesh for the 5 speed 02J manual, if you had notchy gears/grinding in any gear. To my surprise, I've used the syncromesh in two mk4 tdis, and it did wonders, including getting rid of a 3rd gear grind, which I did not expect, so I'm wondering if the same would happen with a 6 speed?

I don't have any gear grind on my mk6, but getting into gear is very notchy, especially second, and I did a fluid flush not long ago, maybe 25k miles, and put in liqui moly 75W, which I'm not impressed with

Reference for oil currently in gearbox

Why not stick with the OE stuff? Price isn't that much more (I think like $25/L) - and I've found it to be excellent in the 6sp.

More like 90 a liter from the dealer... The liqui moly was somewhere around the 20 a liter range

I don't have a problem with the OE oil, the idea here was to see if it would alleviate the crunchyness, much like syncromesh allevied many of the crunchy/notchy/grinding symptoms in my mk4 5 speeds

I would just about bet that you may need a small adjustment to your shift cables under the airbox. Been there-done that.
I have thought the same, but I have adjusted them many times, with no success... I could be doing something wrong, or the cables are stretched/worn, or rather, the selecter shafts are worn

There are just too many to list....
Conversely, I put a VAG spec gear oil product in both my Mazda 5sp box in my '96 F150, and the ZF 5sp box in my '97 F250, improving both transmissions' behavior dramatically.

My mechanic was only able to get mine perfect with me in the car moving the shifter from 1 to 2 as he was adjusting under the hood. Smooth as butter now.
