Glow Plug or Relay or Controller

Had a malfunction light come up on the display 2 days after reading Autozone would help with a reader. I got a code PO380 (GlowPlug/Heater Circuit (A) Electrical Fault in Circuit). Has anyone had this code and what did you replace. I'm trying to not use the dealer due to excess cost but if your advice is to do so I will. I have a 98 Jetta TDI.

Is there a place I can purchase parts for my car that is not as expensive as the dealer?

Also, my book identifys my engine as an AHU. I see in the threads "A3/B4" etc. what is the application to my engine?

You have an A3 - this is the older body style, not the current model.

Perform the glow plug system diagnosis procedure in the TDIFAQ troubleshooting section, and do what it says. You'll need a digital multimeter.
