Gasket wrapped around cv axle?

So I was looking under my car replacing a leaky power steering line and noticed my cv joint by the differential had some oil on it, not sure if it was transmission fluid or regular oil because I just changed my oil so they looked pretty similar. I felt around the joint and pulled out this thing that was wrapped around it. Any clue what this is from? Also is that green part supposed to be sticking out of the differential or is something majorly wrong here.

I could be wrong but it looks like the drive flange oil seal has worked it's way out of the differential and you are loosing transmission oil. Definitely needs attention.

I don't recognize the gasket.

Ahh f*ck. Any way I can just push it back in and be good for like a week? I need to drive 500 miles home before the weekend but running out of transmission fluid would put a damper on things.

I don't recognize that gasket either...is it part of the small plate used to cover the flywheel near where the drive flange comes around the engine? It did not come from the drive flange itself, that I do know.

As for the drive flange, push it back in with a flat screw driver if you can, that's about all you can do without pulling the axle and the flange too. Also, check your double square CV joint flange bolts too, just to make sure nothing is loose there.

Does it leak too much to get home?
I would not push on it with a flathead or anything. That is going to make it leak much more! Well probably. I would not risk it unless it was not an option not to.
Limp it home and keep an eye on fluid. Even if it does leak a bit, I don't think it would leak enough to not make 500 miles.

'keep your eye on the fluid' falls into easier said than done, yes? Is no dip stick, only a level plug up front. Could perhaps over
, and then periodically remove it to make sure it keeps running out...
cheers,
Douglas
ps. over-filling in not a bad thing; these gearboxes are engineered for a minimum fill level and more oil is better.

An eye on it is more like pull over and check for a puddle. And clean up as best you can. No way your going to keep topping it off with the fill port on the side of the street.
Unless you see it dripping out at idle, leave it and drive home.

For that window held in place with a small bolt with an 8mm head( on the back side of the engine )? About 3/4 the size of your palm?
cheers,
