I know this is disappointing. It's almost a wash for me know I figure. That said, I ended up with the TDI because of the miles I drive and the residual value after packing on the miles.

Yep, definitely tough to swallow but there are other benefits to having the diesel. On the flipside prices were pretty close over the summer...I think they came within 10 cents of each other at one point.

Yeah the spread increases in the winter drastically due to home heating oil and winterizing. Plus, diesels seem to suffer more with economy in the cold as well. But, I wouldn't trade my TDI for a gasser, unless it was a Golf R :D

I paid $3.19/gal this morning at my local Shell. Cheapest I have seen in a long time.

Down to $3.05/gal this morning. I expected a huge price increase for the Thanksgiving weekend but it did not happen.

$4.20-$3.89 Diesel across Minneapolis right now. My lady filler her Jeep with $2.78RUG last night.

Complaining right now about diesel price being super high is silly, the price hasnt changed for me in almost 2 years it just looks worse now by comparison. Plus, RUG will come back up like it always does and in the long run Diesel is still a winner. Its like only being a fan of your local sports team (go sports!) during the playoffs. We drive a TDI because it is the long run winner not the week to week rock star.

Yeah it's been wearing on me to see diesel anywhere from 60 to 90 cents per gallon higher around here. I'm okay with a 30 cent spread.

diesel fuel price disparity

the 20-30% price disparity between regular unleaded gasoline and diesel is a result of the cynical exploitation of the American consumer and industry. By exporting to Europe 1.4 million barrels of diesel fuel daily the relative scarcity of diesel in the U.S. allows the refiners to charge so much more in the U.S. They can capitalize on the fact that over 50% of autos in Europe are diesel, consequently the great demand for this fuel there. The federal tax here is only 6 cents per gallon greater for diesel. All those unhappy with this price difference should complain to their U.S. senator or congressman who have the ability to rectify this situation. The use of diesel powered vehicles should be encouraged by eliminating the imbalance in prices and allowing consumers to enjoy the full benefits of diesels 30+ advantage in fuel economy.

It's more diabolical than that. It is an orchestrated effort to keep inflationary prices in place due to "transportation and production costs" caused by high diesel prices. This way all the products that hiked their prices (way over what was necessary for higher fuel prices) can keep them there, yet we have appeased the majority with lower gasoline prices, putting money directly in their pockets to spend on the products. It is more or less an incentive program to spark the economy leading into xmas. Genius, actually. No one cares about truckers, farmers, or a couple dorky diesel car drivers.

$3.89 diesel vs. $2.75 Regular at my local station. All'z i can say is :(
That being said, I still enjoy driving my TDI and low gas prices don't change that fact that I can still go 500+ miles before filling up...

Sold 2014 Jetta back to VW in 2016. In Oct 2020 Bought 2015 Passat TDI SE CPO
Paid 3.19 in NC on Tuesday. (Still seeing price dropping, was 3.28 a week earlier)

3.69 in OH on Wednesday. I have seen 3.99 here in MI.

Should not need any until someplace in OH on return to NC.

Talk about free diesel at those prices.

That works out to CA$0.94 per liter while we are paying CA$1.25 up here.

But it could be worse. Diesel in Europe costs less than gas, but the overall lowest price works out to US$7.94 per US gallon.

Got gas in the RAV4 this morning, RUG was $2.899, and diesel was $3.499 which I think is up 2¢/gal since the last time I filled up the Jetta. Our relatively high prices are due to the distances to the refineries, 3 within 20 miles along I-90.

Just paid $3.33/gallon at ARCO in Vista (San Diego, CA). Sandiegogasprices shows there is a Shell nearby selling diesel at $3.04/gallon! Oh well.

Today in Bowling Green, KY RUG was $2.33; Diesel was $3.59!!! Diesel being 50% more than RUG is really a PITA. Wipes out the mileage benefit and then some. Really a shame the "non-diesel" fo9lks don't raise cane about it, but they don't care 'cause they "don't use diesel", yet they are too dumb to figure out that since EVERYTHING the eat comes from a farm with diesel powered tractors and every single thing they buy was hauled by diesel engine trucks/trains and THEY, the American consumer are paying for it as a hidden cost in every single thing that is purchased. The economy would be a lot better off if Gasoline was several percent higher than Diesel, but nobody, but us diesel nuts, take time to figure that out..

Diesel has dropped $0.40/gallon in the past two months here. I don't know about gas prices since I never buy it.
