Gas price dropping, will diesel follow??

Saw $2.99 gasoline this morning...diesel still hanging around $3.59. Anybody know if diesel will follow suit or does it typically stay that much higher going into the winter? I've only been a tdi'r for a year now so maybe you guys know from experience (or have some inside info )...

Simple answer = yes. Oil prices are falling so the prices for all oil products are falling too. That said, diesel prices do tend to be higher this time of year due to heating oil sales (heating oil and diesel fuel are essentially the same thing). Diesel prices have gone down some (but not as fast as gasoline). I filled up this morning and the cost was about 30 cents per gallon less than it was a few weeks ago. Diesel fuel and gasoline both follow the rules of supply and demand, but there is more supply and more demand for gasoline so gas prices tend to be a little more volatile.

Also USA is world's largest exporter of diesel fuel. This has a part to play in the supply side. So we play a part in world demand for diesel fuel.

Gas is about 2.90 here and diesel 3.30. Dropped 35 cents in one month. Hopefully it keeps going.

Sitting in the 2.40s for RUG and averaging 3.40s for diesel, only one nearby station has it at 3.37. Some of the bigger stations are dropping to 3.39, some of the smaller stations are sitting around 4.00 (!?) in some places. Our local Kroger is at 3.39 AND their loyalty program applies to diesel!

Diesel has been dropping, too, but not as fast as gas. Just interesting to see the differences. Plus, I feel way more awesome and smug when the price difference isn't as large . . .

I live in Milwaukee but travel currently in AL where gas is 2.95 and diesel is 3.39-3.49 I just hope if follows to Milwaukee.

Bingo. It usually increases this time of year due to heating oil demand so if anything I expect the prices to stay where they are.

Our diesel prices are actually starting to rise now. I paid $3.47/gal (lowest I could find) and now it's at $3.51 and creeping up.

Lowest I have seen is 3.24. Last Saturday in Spartanburg SC. Locally I'm paying 3.48. It's been that for at least a month.

I paid $3.50 yesterday. RUG has been right at $3.00 or so around Louisville, depending on location.

I have an app on my iPhone that keeps track of all the prices, Gas Buddy. Cheapest diesel in Portland, OR is $3.09

My other cars are gassers, cheapest premium gas is currently the same price as diesel, $3.09

I paid 3.14 in Albany, GA the other day. RUG was 2.69. I use gas buddy also. Prices vary wildly like .20 within 50 mile and I try to plan fueling with that website when I am going out of town.

Just filled up at $3.559 at Sunoco in Melbourne, FL. RUG just dropped to $2.95. Been pretty consistent unless you go beach-side, then it gets a tad more expensive, $.25 more in some cases.

I saw a TA at Vero Beach that had it for $3.499, and a Valero station next door that was selling it for $3.199. The fact the Valero station was $.30 cheaper makes me a little suspicious on the quality...

Be a bit careful with that app in Portland.. it might have some bad data -- bioD's quite a bit cheaper than D#2, and I've run into a station that was selling bioD without disclosing why their diesel was cheaper.

...and unless I saw the 9 as a 5 this morning it is now $3.79/gal...almost a dollar difference with gas!

Someone get big diesel on the phone...this is unacceptable.

Just paid $3.79/gal for ULSD in Rochester NY. RUG $3.26. Interesting to see how long it lasts into the winter...

At this kind of price differential it isn't worth owning a diesel for the fuel economy.
