Contact Bill Hanly, at Hanly Oil. They are the Philly area distributor for Worley and Obetz/Amerigreen/HC Renier.

Bill has been selling to me at $4/gal in todays high price climate. That is 40 cents cheaper than D2 around here for the good stuff!

He 'can' deliver a large quantity to your location for a reasonable fee. In order to avoid that fee I bring up a couple 5 gal jugs and he fills them up for me. I then fill up a drum in the garage and blend it in the car as I see fit.

And yes, the car runs quieter and better.:D

He is a good guy and he just loves what our TDI's can do in terms of mileage and performance. I think I talked his brother into getting a 2008 Sportwagen.

Mention that you heard about him from Mike with the new Jetta.

Just bought my 2005 Passat TDI off my lease so now I'm more comfortable with alternatives. So here's my super-newbie question.

Can I freely mix this stuff with whatever amount of regular diesel I already have in the tank? I'm heading thru the Philly area in a couple of weeks and would love to fill up with this.

Sure. Just be advised of the typical warnings about the crud-loosening factor of high percentage bio, though it's probably a non-issue in such a newer car. Still, keep a fuel filter and tools in the trunk, just in case, if you choose to go close to B100. Also beware of gelling. There was actual talk of snow flurries in some areas on Philly news last night, this coming after an almost 80 degree day. Crazy climate. A cold snap could cause gelling with B100.

thanks

I've been keeping an eye out on and off for awhile for a biodiesel source.

It's a bit of a drive so I'll watch the timing to coincide with some other trip but worth the planning :)

He's not too far for me to drive. Since my car is a couple years old, I know that I will have crud problems. How many fuel filters will I go through when I make the switch? How will I know when I need to switch the filter?

Just keep one handy. You might not have any problems at all with a 2005. You'll know you need a filter if your car is sluggish. You may notice a very slight drop in power with B100 during heavy accelration due to it having slightly less energy than D2. Don't confuse that for your filter clogging.

I have started using Standadyne with my dinodiesel. Will it help, hurt, or do nothing with this B99?

Stanadyne works great with DinoD, and I actually got little better MPG's with it vs. Powerservice (gray bottle). The results will be the same with a Bio blend. The price as of this past weekend is STILL only $4/gal for the B99.

I finally got over there and got 21 gallons for $4.05/gallon. I can say that I definately took a hit on mileage.

After I started using Standadyne performance, my commute to work was at around 45-47mpg. Today, because traffic was so light, I traveled at 57 mph in cruise control the entire time and only got 42 mpg. This type of traffic usually resulted in the higher end of mileage.

So I took a 12% hit in mileage and saved 8% in cash. Unless I have a really sooty fuel filter, this does not make economic sense. I will keep buying it for a few tank fulls to give it a fair shot but if the mileage to savings ratio stays intact, I will only use it occassionally.

And in agreement with Mike, Bill and his brother are great guys.

'If' I am really looking at the MPG equation, I try not to run more than a B40 blend. More than that, then the mileage goes down a bit. It has nothing to do with flooring it with RC 1++ either. Just the nature of the beast.

The car DOES run much smoother and quieter with the Bio and have no problem passing anyone I want with that blend. (Higher Cetane)

Sleeze, then next fill up put in 10-12 gallons of Dino, then top off the tank with the Bio. Your mileage should be close to what you normally got, and the car should run great. Glad it is working out.

I called Bill and went over there on Friday. I got 10 gallons at $3.50/gal. He quoted me a better price if I would buy a 55gal drum ($3/gal).

If you need some bio, give him a call.
