Fuel Pump Timing

I just replaced the timing belt on my 2000 golf tdi ahl. Do I need to have the fuel pump timing checked? I don't have the equipment to do that and want to know if it is necessary after a timing belt change.

Thanks

Should you, yes. Can you get away with not doing so, also yes. If you're still starting okay and it's cold out, the car runs normally, and you're not seeing excessive smoke, it's probably okay.

Using the correct jigs gets the timing close enough to start the engine; it should then be dialed in, while monitoring with the appropriate scan tool, for best performance/economy/emissions/cold starting performance.

You won't hurt anything by not dialing it in, but given the cost of diesel these days you may be leaving real money on the table. :)

You guys are great! I will get it dialed in. I live in a fairly rural area, north central Arizona. There aren’t any shops within thirty miles that can do this sort of work that I know of. Does anyone have a recommendation for a shop in ARizona that can do the fuel pump timing? And, any idea what it would cost?

Full disclosure; there is a VW dealer in Flagstaff, 60 miles north of me. Do I dare go there?

no. spend the money VCDS and then it's simple to dial in the timing with that. anything else will likely cause headaches and loss of money....

I'm a little confused. Timing adjust is part of the timing belt replacement.
The most crucial part is setting the crank, cam and IP at the time the belt is done.
If that was done properly, you just need to fine tune it.
Any OBDII device that can read measuring block 000, field 2 can be used for that.
VCDS is a great tool if you're repairing and maintaining your own car.
