This morning: Garage temp. is about 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Outside temp. is 17 degrees Fahrenheit. The fuel gauge read 2nd to last indicator. After driving for about 10 minutes. It reads 3rd to last indicator. 20 minutes later (30 minutes total driving) it goes back to 2nd to last indicator. It stabalized 1/2 way between 2nd and 3rd to last indicator. No changes in performance. Did the fuel gelled up?

The first 10 minutes was on flat road. The next 20 minutes was on hill.

Karl. I think it is one hill.
10 minutes on the incline and 10 minutes on the decline.

Hi,

Mine varies about 1/2 an indicator mark depending on the fuel temp and the cars attitude. Cold or uphill = lower reading. Warm or downhill = higher reading.

Bugs me because I use the fuel guage as a reminder to keep myself in "economy" mode by trying for 75 miles between indicator marks.

as for economy mode, i can usually count on 85 miles between hash marks. 75 miles would correspond to about 42-44 mpg for me.

my driving cycle is about 70% highway 60-80 mph with the remainder on fairly open boulevards at 40-50 mph, so it is easy to get good economy.

I have noticed the varying needle due to incline and temp. Just about any fuel gauge will do that. Not a big worry, really.
