I am selling my 1999 VW New Beetle TDI 5sp ALH (Yellow) because I have been traveling a lot for work and no longer drive. Instead of having the car sit for another 2 years, I thought I would just sell it. I would typically get around 45mpg.
It has a 5 speed transmission. It has 309k miles on it and the last timing belt change was done at 307k. So, you have almost a full 100k on this timing system before needing to worry about having it changed again.
I have always used Mobile TDT or Rotella 5x40 full synth oil in it.
The only three issues I know of are the fuel door release not clicking shut (common on NB), power window switch on driver's side has a broken piece of plastic, and a crack in the windshield (passenger side). The switch would be simple to replace, I just haven't bothered because it still works fine.
I have several mods on the car as well.
- Vented the fuel tank
- Race pipe (intake was cleaned as well)
- PP520 injectors
- 11mm IP
- RocketChip stage 3 chipped
- Bilstein TC suspension on all 4 corners
- McNally Boost/EGT
- 2 pod Brendt
- skid plate
- New control arms bushings
- Removed the snow screen in the intake
- New battery (6 months old)
- Tow hitch
- brakes and rotors within past 10k
- 109 Relay
- MAF
- Ball joints
- Glow Plug Harness
- Thermostat
- E-Brake Cables
- Coolant Temp Sensor
- Glow Plugs
- Sway Bar Bushings
- etc
That's over $1500 in parts alone in the past 18 months.
The 99 has a LUK clutch so even with the mods, it is holding strong.
I know the miles sound like a lot, but the car is it terrific shape.
Non-smoking car.
