FS 97 Passat TDI 1z part-out (MI)

1997 Part out of a 97 Passat 1Z TDI (similar to ahu). Car care was well documented and well cared for. Car has 270k miles and was getting quite rusty, so my son and I decided to part it out. Before disassembling the car I video taped the compression tests on all four cylinders and all were between 490 - 500 psi. The cylinder walls are in good shape with only a very minor lip at the top. The car has always used Shell Rotella synthetic and I have documentation of every oil change since October of 2000 when it was sold from father to son. I will mark SOLD behind items as they are sold. I couldn't list every item, so feel free to ask about any of them.

I PM'd you, possibly interested in ECU, harness, and injectors if you can confirm ECU is an FA.

I updated the parts list this morning. The interior of the car is black up to the gray visors, headliner, grab handles, etc. The dash had a new aftermarket stereo, good vents, trim pieces, etc. The factor manual is available as well as silver side mirrors, rear tail lights and much more. Let me know if you are interested in anything!

Folks (potential buyers),

I know Doug personally, and he's a great guy to deal with - he will be honest with his description, and timely on his output. And, I know him well enough to say that if you weren't satisfied with what he sent you, he'd make up for it.

No hesitations,......my endorsement for what it's worth,

Kirk

Thanks Kirk. Although you may be only saying that because you haven't paid me yet for the parts you bought!!!

OK folks...here's the available part of the day! Nice little turbo...good condition, no measurable wear end play in the shaft. $160 shipped!

I think there may be a mix-up. I believe your engine is a 1Z as that is what they were sold as in the US for '97. Though it may mostly just be a nomenclature change for '98, there were a few important changes for the '98. It would just make things more clear for the buyers especially since the 98 AHU had changes made on the pump and this is one of the main differences.

Do you have any pictures of the clutch and could you please check that it has zero play room for the 4 springs? Thanks.

that is 100% a 1Z pump... AHU pumps had the ribbing like the ALH pumps...1Z's were smooth like the one pictured....glws!!
My '97 B4 AHU came with that same smooth cased pump. The B4's had the smooth cased pumps from the factory regardless of engine type and the A3's had the ribbed cases. They are interchangeable.

do you still have the T28 cable? White pigtail connector that connects behind instrument cluster to fusebox. it should be A3 jetta mk3 wire configuration.

Gentlemen - Thanks for the clarification. I didn't understand there was a difference between the ahu and 1z. Does anybody know any definitive way to tell? Will it say on the door jam or anything? I was told the car was German ordered, but that was just hearsay.

HouptyGT - I'll check on the clutch tonight and message you back.
Mazrik - I sold the whole wire harness already. Sorry.

It'll say on the block, on a flat section just above the oil dipstick. May be covered in crud.

Generally, if it has the EGR cooler, no 5th injector, and no relay 103 in the #12 fusebox slot, it's an AHU engine. It's not a hard and fast rule, but pretty close.
