2003 VW Golf TDI For Sale
(Edit: posted again April 11, 2022 - see post #15 )
Here's the basics on the car - I bought it a couple years ago with an automatic that was starting to balk (as they typically do) and after replacing the transmission, I started replacing things to make it into my long-term "fun" car.
But then, I found my dream car (Mk7 GSW with a manual transmission), so that's now getting all of my "make fun" attention - both in driving and time/money. Too many cars, not enough me to drive them. Something has to go, so this is it.

I did all of the work myself, and I'm fastidious about following proper procedure and specs, and all work listed below was done in the last 3000miles.
  • 315K km (just under 200K miles)
  • Malone Stage 4 tune (VNT17, Wuzetem nozzles, 11mm pump)
  • 5sp. swap with Southbend Stage 2 Daily clutch
  • .658 5th gear
  • 2.5" BuzzKen downpipe
  • backup camera, double-DIN stereo
  • front bumper grill LED DRLs
  • Bilstein TC suspension front and back - all new bump stops and other small parts
  • new pads/rotors all around
  • Conti timing belt kit, with water pump, new rollers, etc.
  • New thermostat and coolant temp sensor
  • Brake fluid flush, new fuel, cabin, air filters
  • New brake cables
  • Audi TT lower control arm bushings
  • custom two-tone interior
  • Leather steering wheel with steering wheel audio / cruise controls
  • Hitch receiver, trailer wiring
  • Hatch unlocks along with the doors (and stays unlocked...until you lock the car again)
  • Pretty much zero rust on the body - been driven here in BC (Vancouver Island) where we rarely get snow its whole life
  • Evolution Imports Atlas skid plate
  • Centre console w. cupholders
  • Brand new windshield (pro tip: if you have a small barely noticeable crack in the windshield, don’t wash your car on a hot summer day 🤦‍♂️)
  • Fresh alignment after the suspension work was done
I've sold Mk4 cars to a couple other Americans and the process was pretty easy - both of them got to the border, told CBP they were importing the car, went in, filled in a couple forms, paid some taxes, and they were on their way.
I'm on Vancouver Island (BC, Canada) - more than happy to pick you up at the airport if you want to fly in, or otherwise travel to pick it up. Can also meet you at Nanaimo ferry terminal if you want to walk on. (I've done both in the past)

A couple photos; more available upon request. If you want to see something specific, let me know.

To really finish it off, I recently (after those photos) added leather door card inserts on the front doors - turned out really well.

Interior reminds me of a Reese's peanut butter cup. I like it! GLWS!

Here we go (driver door the same; sunlight was coming right through the door, so the photo of that one was garbage).

I did something similar with my two door golf. Only a black headliner. Those seats are awesome. Wish I had them. I'm jealous. It should sell quickly.

I would imagine that within another year or so, I would have gotten around to doing a black headliner - I think that would cap off that two-tone interior nicely. :D

Im very interested. I wish I wasnt so far South of you (Ft Lauderdale, FL)

If I could figure out some reasonable logistics to get the car to FL, you might have yourself a buyer.

Less than $200USD gets you to Vancouver Island. 😁

(One way flight for $152USD to YVR; $10 in transit to ferry terminal; $15 ferry to Vancouver Island.)

But yeah - kind of a long drive back home for you.

I had thought they were, but I had them out a while ago, and the lockdown fold at the bottom of the seatback looked non-OEM. So, I have to assume a previous owner got them re-upholstered. Also, outside of the GTIs, I don't recall seeing other ALH-era Golfs here in Canada that came with leather in any trim level - plenty of Jettas, but haven't seen OEM leather on a Golf that I can recall.

For anyone who's interested...this car is for sale again.
Not by me, though - the guy who bought it from me "upsized" to an off-road Delica-type van.
He put on a Metalnerd 2" lift kit and some monster BFG KO2 tires, but in the end, decided to go the whole nine yards with something he can sleep in.

pm me and I can pass along the contact info

Yeah - I was really impressed with how that turned out; it's awesome!

Just noticed that I forgot to mention in the original posting (now updated) that it has a 2.5" BuzzKen downpipe as well. Just one more goodie. :D

Yes - just to answer the most common question coming in: The car is still here on Vancouver Island.
And like mentioned in the original post, American's importing a car from Canada into the US....surprisingly easy and straightforward (at least it was for the Americans to whom I've cars in the past):
Show up at the border, tell CBP you're importing the car, go in and fill out a form or two, pay some fees (couple hundred $$), on your way.
