Hi all,
In so many ways I hate doing this, but it is time. I've loved this car since 2011, when I purchased it from the original owner at around 75k miles. I put lots of time and money into tasteful upgrades (much to my wife's annoyance), and it has accompanied us through two children and many family trips. We recently purchased and finished building a Sprinter van, and it is time for me to exit the TDI world for now. I'm offering up on the forum first, before I go to any of the other usual places, because this community has been so amazing.
Starting asking price: $5000 firm
So with that, details, pictures and an honest assessment of the car:
The good:

So with that, details, pictures and an honest assessment of the car:
The good:
- A few older pictures in this thread (keep in mind that everything is a lot more "used" now--current pictures below).
- Low miles, mostly highway: ~163k, may go up slightly. I have always lived within biking distance of work and kids schools, so that has been my primary mode of transportation. So the car mostly saw longer trips.
- Kerma tuned with loader included. Switchable between stock, or two different tunes with the loader or in VCDS, also included! (K-II USB).
- I have all service records, always from a TDI trusted mechanic (Matt Phelan, Leonard Harvieux, etc.)
- OEM 15" Aluminum Alloy 5-spoke wheels in great shape
- California car, no rust! All original VW paint intact (not sun damaged either). Just the usual scrapes and scratches of a 21 year old car, but even those are minor.
- Average MPG 42.7 over 89,000 miles tracked (see my Fuelly)
- Many cosmetic, interior and non-engine upgrades:
- GTI round bolster heated seats
- Front end swap (Jolf)
- GTI tail lights
- GLI 3-spoke perforated steering wheel and matching perforated shift boot
- Front OEM VW Jetta fog lights (lenses in great shape)
- Rear fogs
- R-line shift knob
- Aluminum radio trim and pedals
- Aluminum trim rings around speed and tachometer
- Center console w/cupholders
- Homelink visor
- Remote windows mod (windows up and down by holding lock and unlock on key fob)
- 35% ceramic tint,
- Q5/Touareg rear wiper
- Roof rack
- PD engine cover mounts mod
- Fumoto F106SW
- Panzer skid
- Bilstein HDs (see note in "The Bad")
- OEM mudflaps
- Included extras:
- 6 programmed keys: 3 fobs, 3 valet style
- Custom 2" class II hitch
- OEM VW Roof Rack
- OEM VW car cover
- OEM VW Windshield Sun Shade
- Kerma tune loader
- VCDS K-II USB
- Full Bentley Manual (also have PDF version I can send)
- Scangauge II
- iPod/iPhone integration to OEM stereo (allows you to stream any audio through your stereo)
- Snow chains
- An extra matching leather heated front seat bottom cover that is worn (but not as bad as the current passenger). Can be reupholstered.
- A bunch of old parts that were swapped out (you can scrap what you don't want, but it’s all going with the car and out of my garage).
- A box of extra oil, air, fuel filters and some extra Diesel Purge and other additives and fluids.
- If you're a CA resident, registration and smog just completed effective September
- Needs timing belt ASAP. The belt was changed at 75k miles with a 100k kit, but nearing the 90k mark and over 12 years. I would not drive away with it without doing that, and I have a local TDI mechanic I can refer to. Or you can take care of it in my driveway. (Please, no lectures on why this isn't done.)
- Carfax may have one minor accident listed from the previous owner. This was to the front end. After purchase, I swapped the front end with a German-made Jetta Wagon with original paint (pics of that swap in the link above). I think I got the better end of that deal!
- Headliner is sagging in the rear. Slight water stains from when the moonroof drains were clogged (since unclogged).
- Passenger leather seat covers have seen better days. Refer to pictures. I have a spare that is also in poor shape. Good news is the driver seat is in great shape with a new seat bottom.
- Passenger lock modules - Front passenger does not detect that it is locked or unlocked. I have a new part that I never installed, will be included with the sale. The rear passenger lock does not auto lock or unlock with the rest of the locks.
- One of my Bilstein shocks/struts (will need to confirm which, but I believe front passenger) has a torn rubber boot. So that likely needs a rebuild.
- Monsoon AM/FM radio is only static. However I have wired an iPod/iPhone integration kit that works great to stream anything I want through my iPhone, so I haven't missed it.
- You probably need new brakes and tires soon.
- Moonroof works great but needs to be serviced (disassembled, cleaned, lube moving parts with silicone grease)
- Ran professionally made biodiesel for a time but stopped after IP was replaced in 2012. Has been on occasional B20, ULSD or Renewable Diesel since.
