ENGINE AND DRIVETRAIN
- This is a gasoline-to-TDI swap, the engine is a 2003 ALH with about 185k miles on it
- VKLR 2060 ball bearing turbo installed less than 1k miles ago
[work done by Roman Goldin in the Philly area]
- Race 520 5 hole injectors
- 11mm (automatic) injection pump
- Tyrol-Sport Side mount intercooler
- New brake booster within the last couple thousand miles
- New Raxles CV installed in the last few thousand (one side), while the right CV could use a boot.
- 3 bar map
- Rocket Chip tune for the previous VNT 17, needs to be re-tuned for the new turbo
- 5 speed manual and upgraded clutch
- Short shift kit
- New battery as of June 2024
- Full custom exhaust that exits through the left rear taillight hole (see photos)
- Tires have good life left in them but, might be out of round from being parked. :(
- Fresh new OEM timing belt service done by TDI pro Roman Goldin at time of turbo install about 1k miles ago
- Other general maintenance including vacuum lines, oil, filters, etc. last invoice for work done was $4,000, not counting turbo and other materials
- Bilstein gold shocks with a few thousand miles on them
- New OEM shock springs

Failed to pull the parking brake and the car rolled down my driveway into my tree. Sale includes a Turbo Beetle bumper to swap on, for better airflow to the side mount intercooler. There's also an AC leak near the evap coil where I pinched a Viton seal during installation. Ordered the seal but have not put it in.

Turbo S Beetle bumper cover to match side mount intercooler air path and some old media coverage about the car.

Many accessories yet to be installed, like this custom shift boot and knob that match the color scheme being implemented on the interior plastics.

BODY AND INTERIOR
- Body is in good to very good shape for a car of its age but does have some issues. See the picture above of the front bumper damage. Rest of the car the paint is in very good condition.
- Full custom paint job (was lime green from the factory)
- R32 front seats in great condition
- Custom color matched painted wheels
- Aftermarket front HID lamps that are foggy and need to be polished or replaced
- HID reverse lamp (would be better as LED)
- Smoked tail lamps and color matched side indicators
- Alpine head unit
- Soundstream amplifiers stealthily hidden and powering Stereo Integrity and other components
- A ton of sound damping work done using mass loaded vinyl
- Back seat bottom was damaged when I bought the car, haven't replaced it.
- Door cards were recovered after factory fabric pulled off. The recovered vinyl pulled back but, I converted the cards to be held in with threaded nylon fasteners so it's easy to take them out and recover.
- Much of the beige interior parts have been turned black using SEM plastic dye (see picture further down)
- Custom fabric covered A pillars integrating the upgraded speakers
- Custom fabric headliner (see pictures)
- Aluminum belly plate
- 35% ceramic tint chosen to match the Audi dk gray of the custom paint
- Included will be a yet-to-be-installed New Beetle Turbo lower front bumper cover (the style with the air inlet situated well for the side mount intercooler)

headliner

Sale of the car will include extras and supplies including some more of the interior upholstery fabric, mass loaded vinyl in case you want to continue down the big car audio path I was on. More spares like interior LED lamps, a set of OEM mud flaps, battery tender, Chiltons manual, air-bag spring kit (was planning a Euro-hitch, assorted fasteners, o-rings, strut bushings, and the list goes on.

Even though it has some rough spots (front bumper, some plastics) I'd love to see someone give this a good home and not just part it out. Even without the proper tune the turbo spools up as quickly as the VNT 17/22 ever did, it's got so much potential. I just don't have time or space to work on it anymore.

Do you have a thread on how you attached the door cards?

No, I don't think I ever posted on it...
After removing the door panel and carefully grinding away the door card plastic welds, I was able to remove the card and wire brush the old foam off. I used a combination of solvents; I think acetone first and then toluene to clean the cards a bit more, in hopes that the new vinyl and adhesive would bond well. To reattach the card to the door I bought some very short nylon nuts-and-bolts from McMaster and some two-part epoxy specifically made for bonding to nylon, it's not an easy plastic to bond to. Then I bonded the threaded nylon studs to the door panel, drilled holes in the card and used the nuts to fasten the card on. None have come loose as far as I can tell. But, the vinyl and adhesive have given up... <shrug>

Nope not yet, and to be honest I'm a bit surprised. I have had a few calls with interested folks but nothing more than good conversation to show for it. I know the car doesn't have broad market appeal but, I thought at least someone would have jumped on it by now. I guess it's time again for a price drop. <shrug>

Or list it on Facebook and craigslist. Many more eyeballs in those places.
It's not but, that's by choice. I'd rather sell it for less to someone here on the forum that is going to take care of it than to get a couple hundred more and have it parted out in 3 months. I know I can't control what happens next but, I figure that TDI enthusiasts are a bit more likely to appreciate what it is and keep on modding and driving it. Who knows...
