Harvieux is right. I got a screaming deal. I got lucky because the salesman took me for a test drive, and made a verbal contract to sell it to me for that price before we returned to the dealership. When they took it on trade the previous day, as Mike says, the book didn't differentiate.
However, when he went to get the paperwork from his sales manager, he came back with that days price list, and they had marked the variant up to $11K, purely on the volume of call they had received. Because Martens are not the usual bunch of shysters, they stuck to their original price with me.
There is a massive gap in demand between the sedans and wagons. Hence the price difference. When I wrecked my original wagon back in September (with 126K), State Farm initially offered me $7600. With the help of Harvieux, gavio and a couple of others, we got that raised to a few bucks under $10K.
BTW, that was 39,000 miles Tom, not 38,000.
