**Car is sold, to be picked up this weekend.**
Sorry forgot the location in the title, unfortunately that can't be edited. Car is in Madison, Wisconsin.
I recently purchased a 15' Sportwagen TDI so unfortunately the time as come to part ways with my beloved Golf. I am the second owner but I purchased the car back in January of 04' when the car was 1 1/2 old and had 30k miles on it from a fellow in AZ. I have records for every maintenance item that has been done to the car and have recorded every tank of fuel since I've owned the car. All the maintenance was done myself. (I have a problem with trust when it come to others working on my car.) I always used OEM parts. This information has all been entered in Excel. (If you're serious about the car I can email you the file.) The car has been garaged it's whole life and I make a point of parking in the distant parking spots so as not to get door dings. Almost every mile on the car was spent on the interstate. I've used it for traveling to different sites for work--sites varied between 75-500 miles away and recreational road trips. My office is only a few miles from my house so I commute by bicycle year round so as not to unnecessarily start my TDI for only a few miles. It was also nice to keep it out of the salt as much as possible during the winter. I averaged in the mid and upper 50's during the summer and low 50's during the winter though keep in mind my miles were almost 100% highway. I've managed over 60 mpg on 9 tanks in it's lifetime. I never did figure it out but it's lifetime average must be 53 mpg.
Some general info:
-car now has 308k miles on it
-used Mobil 1 Delvac oil it's whole life changed around 8000 mile intervals when a handful sneaking up to 10k miles.
-Oil consumption is the same now as in 2004 (about 1/3-1/2 qt. every 8k miles)
-Clutch and transmission operates smooth, no detectable change since new
-AC works great (never had one issue with it it's entire life)
-no fluid leaks (a little oil residue on oil pan but never enough to create a drip
-Michelin Energy saver tires have about half their life left and are quiet & balanced
-Included Nokian snow tires have about half their life left, quiet, balanced
-No visible rust on the body, I did fix a spot on the trunk a couple years ago and it seems to be holding up well so far. There are some small spots starting under the car but I can't find any rust on the fenders, doors or wheel wells.
-Almost all the time it has been just me in the car so the interior is in excellent condition.
-Headliner is in great condition
Modifications/extras:
-ERF 6-speed transmission & hardware that went along with that (runs just under 2000 rpm at 70 mph)
-RC3+ (never been dyno'd but it feels zippier than my new car, maybe 150-160 hp?)
-VNT-17 turbo
-DLC520 nozzles (brand new)
-2.5" downpipe (no CAT)
-Frost heater coolant heater-1000 watt, works great in winter
-Drawtite 1 1/4" receiver hitch
-Aftermarket touchscreen Kenwood radio, has Garmin navigation (could use a map update), satellite radio tuner, cables to hook auk, or I-pod. I still have the stock radio
-a number of spare ECU's
-I replaced the seats and center console of those from an 03' for the better fabric and center cupholders-seats are heated
-CAT 2 fuel filter setup
-4 Nokian Hakkapeliitta RSI's mounted on stock aluminum Avus rims
-Koni "yellows" shocks and struts
-VAG COM cable
-boost and EGT guages
Recent maintenance highlights:
-new DLC 520 Nozzles, adjusted and tested by Diesel Forward (Bosch Dealer)
-new cruise switch
-timing belt kit including water pump, rollers, serpentine belt done at 301k
-also replaced injector pump newer used model (I think it has about 140k on it)
-at 280k replaced front springs, strut mounts, rear calipers, pads, disks
-at 265k new windshield
-at 260k replaced serpentine belt tensionor, idler pulley, alternator pulley
-at 240k install LUK flywheel and clutch kit (did not like aftermarket SPEC clutch installed at time of 6-speed install)
-at 192k replaced all front end bushings, ball joints, tie rods, control arms, rear axel bushings
Couple things to note:
-10 years ago I hit a deer so the bumper cover, hood, driver side fender were replaced. All parts were replaced with OEM. The shop did fantastic work and you absolutely can't tell anything was done.
-passenger front door switch works intermittently
-everyone once in a while when starting it if you let off too early it will kind of "half start". I'm almost positive it happens when the starter gear doesn't retract all the way. I'm thinking a replacement starter would probably take care of it but I never did anything with it because it's preventable and if it happens I just shut it down and restart it.
-couple small spots of rust underneath described above
-one very small ding driver's rear door, not sure of cause, it couldn't really pick it up with the camera
-the weather stripping between the door and the body has some tears in it from the door getting frozen shut in the winter. I haven't replaced it since it isn't normally visible and hasn't caused any issues. This is the foam like stuff at the very top, the rubber gasket that seals out water and air is in good condition.
-the latch for flip down the rear seats is broken, I've gotten pretty used to using a flat screwdriver on the backside to release them so to date I haven't don't anything with them
-rear disks have a little surface rust, you may consider resurfacing or some spirited braking will probably take care of it too in time.
-one of the rear Michelins was recently punctured. It was close enough to the edge that a tire shop wouldn't repair it but not all the way on the edge that I thought it was unsafe so I used a rope patch and it's holding air fine.
-one of the winter tires I just noticed has a screw in it, it's in the middle of the tread so a shop will definitely be able to fix it. Also they do leak a little air between the bead and the rim. It's pretty slow though, you might have to add one a month or so.
-there are a couple scuffs in the rear window tint
-missing one of the key fobs
I'm struggling to come up with a price on this one but we'll start at $4900 and see where that goes.
I hope who ever ends up with it will take equal care of it and it would be great to hear from them every so often. I'd like to hear about how many miles its up to and how it's been working. I'm definitely dreading seeing it drive away. It's been an awesome car! :(
