There are only four bolts that hold the entire seat to the floor. The only hard part about removing the seat is finding the correct wrench. The 4 bolts are an internal metric wrench (sometimes called a triple square or a metric spline wrench). It actually looks something like a big Torx bit, but it is different. What you need is a 10mm internal metric wrench. I found that finding this tool was the hardest part of removing the seat. You just slide the seat all the way forward to remove the rear bolts. Then you slide the seat all the way back to remove the front bolts.

You also must remember that the seat has an airbag in it. Before you unplug the wires coming from the seat to the floor, you *MUST* disconnect the battery so that the airbag is completely dead. I recommend leaving some electric device turned on when you disconnect the battery (like lights or radio) so any residual voltage drains away before unplugging the seat. Also be very careful about static electric charge. Never forget that airbags are (by definition) explosive devices - you don't want them going off accidentally.

That's it - you need a special wrench, and you need to be careful about the airbag system.

Have fun!

Don

Look at the DIY for underseat drawers in the FAQ for pics of the bolts. You'll need a 12 point 10mm driver/bit (aka triple-square) to remove them. Like Don said, they are hard to find locally.

You will need radio codes when you hook up the battery.

I think I got my triple-square at Advance auto parts. As I recall, they called it something else.. LOL

Drive the car to the auto parts store and ask the nice man to come out and look at the what you want to loosen, works for me.

1. Disconnect the battery
2. Disconnect airbags and all other connectors
3. Move seat forward, remove two rear XZN triple square M10 bolts
4. Mover seat back, remove two front XZN triple square M10 bolts

If you have power seats remove bolts first, than disconnect the battery and all the plugs.

I bought my triple square bits from ebay from the seller called "advantagetools". Item was listed as "Spline Bits Serrated Bits Triple Square Bits Wrench Bit" - it was a 4 piece set (6mm, 8mm, 10mm and 12mm). Quality was good and did the job. Under 8 bucks shipped for all four.
Here is a recent listing :

1.how do u do that
2.where do i find them
Don't worry about it. Not necessary with an '09. When you first start your car after re-connecting the battery. you will gets lots of funny lights on your dashboard. Just ignore them and start driving and the car will figure out what is going on and turn them all off. As long as you keep the same radio - the car will remember it - and it will work automatically. Codes not necessary.

Good luck!

No..just want to clean btween the front seats and center console.
I've got a very slim crevice tool that works great. I slide the seats forward as far as they'll go and vacuum then backwards for the same. I'm able to get everything perfectly. Actually, this is the first car I've ever owned that has complete access around and under the seats. Anyways.

What is the proper torque spec for the bolts when re-installing the seat? I think read somewhere 40 ft-lbs.

Actually according to my Bentley Manual, the torque spec is 40 Newton-Meters which is very close to 30 ft-lbs.
