Front end clunk

2011 jetta tdi. Had side to side shimmy upon acceleration. Changed both cv axles. Now when turning right there is a severe "rotational" clunk coming from front passenger side. Swapped old axle back in and problem persists, as to where that was never an issue before. Any thoughts?

What else was disconnected during the job to swap the axle?

Ball joint? Sway bar link?

I'd start there with at least double checking the fastener tightness of those items that were also disconnected during that job.

Yes, ball joint, sway bar link and tie rod were disconnected. The clunk is rotational, do you thing one of those components could cause the clunk to be rotational, not when hitting bumps

The symptoms sound like a broken spring, worth ruling out as the check is just visual

Is it happening when stationary?

Nothing when stationary. Literally rotational clunk when turning right. Replaced ball joints, tie rods, sway bar end links, struts, hubs, cv axles and still there. Next step motor mounts?

2001 golf tdi 4 door auto now a manual, mine, 2000 golf 2 door M/T son's,daughters 98 NB non-TDI 2.0, 2003 TDI NB for next daughter, head repaired and on road, glutton for punishment got another tdi 2001NB,another yellow tdi NB , added an 06 NB DSG
Why would you think it’s motor mounts?
You don’t have the issue till you changed axles and now you do.
Something you disconnected or not tighten will be causing you issues.
But if you want to throw motor mounts….. and new TTY bolts…. It’s your money……..

Mk6 it's probably springs, I've had two separate jettas that the springs (fronts mostly) which broke 2 inches from the end (not including mk4s that also do it). Common on mk6 golfs and jettas. Replace springs and motor on. I used Suplex springs in mine for years now and haven't had the same issue since.

Or it's the sway bar drop links like mentioned above.

138k miles. The thing that's got me stumped is the noise is rotational with speed. Suspension components should be when hitting bumps and such

The parts cannon didn't work. Maybe try a good alignment shop.
Parts canning, not quite. Replacing components that needed replacing and now have a noise that I can't find. Car isn't out of alignment. Not sure what bad alignment would do to cause a rotation clunk that is heard and felt under the passenger floor while turning right?

Alignment shop should fully inspect all that chassis and steering stuff. Find what's loose.
You can get it up in the air and use a big pry bar, might be able to find the clunker.
Illogical, but it could be something loose in the rear.
Do you know if it was involved in a collision maybe?

No collision. Never had this issue until I changed the cv axles to try and eliminate the side to side shimmy the car had when accelerating

Are you sure that the axle bolt/nut is correctly torqued ?

Check for a broken spring (near the bottom end) or upper strut bearing bushings.

Another thing it could be is the tires, my 2010 had a large shimmy at low speed on acceleration. None at anything over 35-40mph

Brand new tires, struts, cv axles, tie rod ends, sway bar end links, ball joints, bearings. Rotational clunk didn't start until cv axles were replaced. Put old cv axles that didn't clunk back in car. Torque to spec new axle bolts and still clunk when turning right out of the passenger side
