Front end accident - air bags went off, replace / total

Daughter had a front end accident, air bags went off and some body damage.
borderline in terms of total or keep.
frame ok, no fluids, low mileage car ( `04 wagon, 91K miles, 5 speed )

I know it needs the air bags ... but does it need the 2 control units listed below. Are they blown like the bags ?

Air Bag Module-Driver Front -M 1J0 880 201 K 4EC
Air Bag Spiral Spring -M 1J0 959 653 C
Air Bag Module-Passenger Front -M 1J0 880 204 K
Air Bag Control Unit -M 1J0 909 609 C
Air Bag Control Unit -M 1C0 909 605 F 01E

the $1100 or so for the 609 C & 609 F might be the difference ..

anyone have any recommendations ?

Used parts should be cheap - all mkivs are the same or very similar with regard to dash/bulkhead parts so it should be an easy fix. We're the "frame rails" compromised? That's where I'd be focusing my attention.

Alternately, if you want to sell the car, I'd love another wagon.

Fix and keep the car. Such low mileage, it's got to be in great shape. Glad your daughter is ok.

Compare part numbers before buying. I bought wrong seatbelt unit for my golf back in 09. Dealt with airbag light for 4 years.

5 speed?? Unless he's had a conversion done, I'm guessing his daughter has a Jetta.

About the airbags and related modules: You should read the information in the Bentley manual concerning these. I've only glanced at it, but I believe you must replace the controllers after air bag ignition; they are single use. Also, when introducing the air bag module to it's controller (new or used) the two have to be coded in order to work. I believe this can be done with a VCDS scan tool. These are not just plug and play. Also there are quite a few part numbers and the correct ones must be used.

front bumper cover, moulding, grill
hood

but the biggie of course is the air bags and control modules

This is interesting to me in more than a car repair way. How old is your daughter an is it her car? Was it her fault?
Parenting 101 would advise that a parent make sure there are appropriate consequences for poor decision making or behavior. Ask me how I know this.

Bad news - I have two right side headlights, both clear lenses.
Good news - I think it' s the side you need?

Both have bulbs. I just need to know if your turn signal is clear or amber?

I think this light is from my wife's 2004 Jetta Wagon -amber signal lens

I think this is my original headlamp off my 2000-white signal lens
