Not sure if I was suppose to lubricate the front caliper sliding pins on 2015 GSW, ive seen both suggestions on the internet, but i did it anyway, put some ATE grease from FCP, now the top pin with the rubber sleeve/ bushing is getting stuck, the sleeve has gotten swollen i suppose, it doesnt look swollen but its hard to put it in or out. The question is how important is that rubber sleeve on the top sliding pin? can i remove it and now lubricate pins normally? I obviously cant go back in time and undo what i did

You mean this rubber boot?

I'd say that's very important. On one car that came to me (Audi A4), there was just a slight tear in it, and the sliding pin was corroded solid in there.
Those boots are pretty cheap - I had a few that came as part of a brake pad set, so was able to replace on the spot (after the hour or so of working that pin free and then cleaning it up).

Only grease I've ever used in there is silicone grease (friendly to rubber).

no, not the boot, one of the pins ( the top one) has a rubber sleeve or bushing

Never seen that sleeve. Did you buy your car new?

hmmm, I don't recall that sleeve in my mk7, but it's been long since I had those brakes apart.

that sleeve is prob internal to the caliper bracket and should stay put when you pull the pin and there to take up some slop so i'd want to get another one installed.

Can't say i've seen those sleeves on a PN list, not sure if you need a new caliper bracket.

its not internal to caliper, there is a special place on the sliding pin for the rubber sleeve, a groove/ recess or whatever you want to call it, when you google "MK7 front caliper slide pins" you can see this.

Well you have the answer to your original post: get that kit and use that grease.

or replace with the normal pin, the question was about the importance of the sleeve, TRW SJ1376 kits unfortunately are not sold in US, and the ones from rockauto dont come with the sleeves

If this helps. On my wife's lexus, I experienced the same thing, one of the pins has that rubber bushing. I took it off and tossed it because it did swell. I had no problem after that. For just over two years no problems, then we sold the vehicle so I don't know what happened after that.

Ah must have confused it with the rear carriers, i didn't see any rubber on the rear pin.

So how does that rubber sleve compare to the 312 caliper carriers? I wonder if only TRW carriers have them and others dont?
