[Fresh] 47 Cetane Premium Diesel in the Philadelphia Area

I just wanted to let anyone in the area know that the ULSD diesel fuel at Farm and Home Oil in Telford, PA (Route 309 North of Montgomeryville Mall) is consistently 47 cetane or above regardless of the season. They have a 24-hour self serve island with both large and small nozzles, and accept credit cards or automated fueling cards only.

They are very high volume and changeover 100% of their fuel every 1.5 days. I have checked 30 deliveries over the past year, and the cetane rating has averaged 47.3; they winterize their fuel from November to April.

There is one small nozzle on the far right of the island, and one small nozzle on the far left of the island. Also, if it matters to anyone, they do not accept AMERICAN EXPRESS.

I'll have to check it out again. THANKS

Note: I found a SHELL station on Ridge Pike @ Old Line Rd. in the Roxborough section of the city. They sell PREMIUM Diesel here.
Car runs like it got chipped. Better MPG and quieter too. Today's price was $4.09/gal. Car sized nozzles.

Driver found: "PREMIUM" on a diesel pump doesn't usually mean much. Most diesel stations in the DC area say, "premium" on the pump, but then the sticker says 40.

Shell station near here sells 45 Premium diesel, and down the road, Shell station sells 40 Premium diesel. Caveat emptor

The Shell Premium you're citing may very well be a higher cetane. Usually, though, a seller is going to put the higher number sticker on the pump to advertise that it is a true premium.

Thanks for the insight. This is the only station I've run across in my area so far that actually has the word 'Premium Diesel' displayed on the big billboard that list all of its fuel products.

Had to try it, since I've always heard about it the top of the line Shell D2, but never had opportunity to use any. By the way that my car is running on this fill up, I would guess that the fuel is in the 45-47 range. Car is zippier now, similar to like my older PD with an RC1 tune. It is quieter for sure.

Found the car nozzle at Farm & Home in Telford. I used the one closest to the giant Propane tank. Topped off with a 1/4 tank of fuel. Car runs great. Quiet, smooth and powerful. Thanks for the tip. http://www.fhoil.com/fueling/index.html

One question I do have if anyone knows already, who supplies their fuel?

Filled up this morning.

I've driven by this place 100's of times and never knew they had a fuel island. By the time you see their sign (which doesn't advertise fuel) you are already past the exit.

I would think that with the easy-off-on from RT309 they would advertise better for the rat race crowd.

There is a Shell station located at the corner of Vine Street and N. 12th Street in Philadelphia. They offer B20 and premium diesel too if I recall it correctly.

Filled up at the Farm and Home in Telford today. The place was empty. And it had the fastest pumps that I've ever seen. Same price as Wawa, hopefully better fuel, without the wait.

EYE2 Thanks for the tip!

Driver_found I have filled up at 8965 RIDGE AVENUE 19128 a few times and never felt a real difference.
The sign on the street says premium diesel, but the pump has no cetane sticker at all. The guys at the station (as usual) have no clue.
I did a long trip with my car just after I bought it in Arkansas last year and definitely felt a difference in fuel from different areas I traveled through. I know what it feels like. I think it was a tank of Exxon or BP that felt really good. Then in WV I had a dog of a tank from Sunoco.

Around Philly I have stopped buying from Hess, my car feels sluggish afterwards. There are 2 Sunocos on City Line Ave and Rt. 23 catty corner from each other. They both have the lowest prices in the area. I go to the one on the SW corner (have discovered on google maps streetview) it used to be a BP station. There diesel from their pump feels good and is cheap. I will have to try the station across the street, there is an old thread on here about a Sunoco station at that intersection that had good diesel. Can't find the thread anymore.

According to Sunoco http://www.gosunoco.com/store-locator/search-results (search for Zipcode 19004)
I have been filling at the former BP station/now Sunoco @ 1 East City Line Avenue Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004
and the Sunoco station across the street is 4900 City Avenue Philadelphia, PA 19131

I did find a Shell premium diesel pump in MT. Ephraim, NJ (or near there) with a 45 Cetane sticker on it. Will have to look for the data/receipt.

FWIW the Sunoco in Chestnut Hill has a diesel pump with a really faded sicker "45 Cetane" but their price is so high I have not "tested" it.
I worked there as a teenager when John Teas owned it. It's under different management now. I dropped in and asked about the cetane rating of their delivered diesel last fall and got a strange look from the employee, to stop asking things he didn't know. They still sell CAM3 (ca. 100 octane gas) it's $10 a gallon.

SoaceMunky yes lets collaborate. These stations in Philly a few and far between:

over at bimmerfest the member pogopop77 has started a google map for the DC metro area. It has been growing since I last checked, Philly is blank. I think he wants a photo of the sticker on the pump.

Maybe it would be a good idea to piggyback on his premium diesel Google map (for BMWs)...?
