Price drop to $80, surely someone can use these on their B4 Passat or A3 Jetta

I'm guessing that these are at least 10yrs old. I don't see any dry cracking on them and wouldn't hesitate to put them on my own cars if I needed snows. Not sure where the Date Code lives, does this pic help?

if one of my b4's were running, i'd take these, but sadly, i don't think that will be happening this year.

Tires were manufactured in the 18th week of 2005. They are more than 10 years past their expiration date and are not safe.

So, they're older than I thought but spent most of their time inside a garage out of the elements. I'd have no concerns in putting them on my own car and that's the only reason I offer them here.

These are now Free. The factory ink is visible in pics even though they're old tires. I'd still run them on my own car and wouldn't offer them here if I had doubts. I scrapped 3 donut spares that were never on the ground due to condition issues.

^^^^^ @burpod. You can't beat the price. At the age they are what's another year or two of sitting. Good yard wheels at the very least.

In my twenties I put two 15 year old tires on the front of my Holden ute. They had been stored indoors and looked fine. 100 miles into a road trip one blew out without warning at highway speed. A guard rail probably saved my life but the ute was a write off.

Thursday, they go to the curb and just like anything else with metal in it they'll be scooped up for the steelies.

This summer I was running a 0-mile spare from my trunk for 1000-2000mi, when it suddenly went flat on me a mile from home. That tire was born in 2007, and the interior sidewall developed a weak ring that made it look like it was rubbing on the suspension. Nope, just old.

In my twenties. I might have tripped over my rent check to get meaty tread tires that mounted and Balanced on steelies for $100 that fit my 67 Dodge so I could get to my 2 jobs...

Donut spares are supposed to get you home or to a tire shop. I'm sure that you must have stayed under the 50MPH rating for the 1000 mile fail point...

Thank goodness, I was just scrolling through the thread waiting to see the return of mongler posting the dangers of using tires over 5yrs old.
In this economy you have to find ways to keep life interesting. Stay safe out there man😄.

To be completely fair Mcgink, p2b and dyke are both correct in saying that they are past their lifetime. Not saying you were attempting to give away bad tires. At the age they are its common for the rubber to start degrading some and the layers can seperate. Perfectly good looking tires of this age are the sort to just grenade randomly. Albeit fairly uncommon it definitely happens. Especially in the farming community where there are a lot of trailers and trucks with very old tires. I've ran tires around the 7-10yr range because they were already on rims like yours, I just put the worse looking ones on the back to brighten my chances. Especially once with bad cracks. Never had an issue, but it's definitely more likely the older they get.
